If you're worthy, they will come, But a HS team is not the stage you will get the attention. Showcases, select teams, and camps are the best way to get noticed. If your from the North you're behind the 8-ball right off the bat. You have to go to them and display your talents, worry about the visits to you later.
to rz1 we play for the elite north east aau team lightning of new england he is only a freshman,is in a great school will go to top 96 showcase (what elese should we be doing)
Are you asking to compare the level of baseball at a Public High School in Massachusetts vs a Parochial one...also may I state that the very best showcase held here in the state are the Bay State Games held in July...you may try out for them in your Sophomore and Junior years...cost is 30.00 and app 400 college scouts attend the weekend games
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Steven Head-Ole Miss SEC Freshman of the Year 2003 Collegiate Baseball National Freshman of the Year-2003 Collegiate Baseball 2004 Pre-Season All-American
Seth Smith-Ole Miss 2002 SEC Freshman of the Year 2002 First Team Freshman All-American
Both played at a Private School, Hillcrest Christian in Jackson,MS
Looking down their 2003 roster, 10 of 41 players were from Private Schools.
The college coaches won't see you in h.s. games. You are lucky if you are in the new england area and want to go to college on the east coast. They had 120 college coaches and pro scouts there last year - you can see which colleges were there on the website. If you want to go to school somewhere else across the country-the top 96 is expanding. If you are good, you can get chosen for this showcase...doesn't matter whether you are good in a public h.s. or a private one...if you also have great grades....you would have it made.
Son's a junior in small Catholic school (220 kids in whole school)and is getting alot of attention but most of it was origianlly generated from Junior Olympics and a few showcase/camps. Go for the good education and great high school experience then hit the road in the summer. (It does help that I live in Florida and there are always "interested parties" at most baseball events.)
My son's HS is in a very tough region. Two of the top contenders to win region this year are small private schools. They play very good and competitive baseball.
As far as HS kids getting looks at their games -we've had very few games this year where there haven't been a college coach there. It might be a specific kid or it might be just to look. I'm sure these two private schools I mentioned have had them there too. Not to say that showcases, etc. aren't important. Around here, HS ball is too.
