I am trying to find out about a rule involving substitution of baseball players in a highschool baseball game. Do all players have to be listed on the initial lineup turned into the the official scorekeeper? Or do the names of the substitue players have to be listed on the bottom of the lineup? And if sub's are not listed on the lineup that is turned in - are those subs inelegible to play during this ballgame? Also, does a protest, if one occurs, have to be made before the ballgame has ended? I hope I've asked the question in a way that is understandable. I worded it as best I could. The ballgame in question was a Triple A Highschool District Baseball Game in Central Louisiana.

The NFHS rule 1-1-2 states that all starting and substitute players must be listed on the lineup card by name, shirt number, batting order and fielding position....

HOWEVER......

There is no penalty for not adhereing to the regulation....

If your state plays by NFHS rules, then no protest would be permitted for violating this rule....

Hope this helps.
just taking what piaa-ump said a step further. it is possible that a sub could not report and go in let's say for the left fielder in the second inning. then in the seventh inning he goes in for the right fielder. the other teams claims illegal sub to the ump. he checks his line up card and does not have the sub listed as previously entering the game so he denies the protest. it doesn't sound fair but here in ohio there is no penalty for not listing all the subs or for failing to report subs to the umpire.
