NFHS Rule 9 section 6 Article 6 (B)

Winning and losing pitchers are determined as follows:

(B) If a game ends for what ever reason, having gone less than seven innings, then the starting pitcher shall have pitched three or more consecutive innings to be declared the winning pitcher

Umpires are not scorers.... but in my opinion an error ruins the perfect game. A perfect game is a no hitter facing the minimum amount of batters.....an error clearly extends a no hitter but the perfect game is gone......

So who would you give the W to when 3 pitchers pitch a 5 inning game (called after 5 due to 10-run rule)?

Starter goes 2 innings, reliever goes 2 innings and the final pitcher goes 1 inning. Starter was pulled with the game well in hand at 10-0 in the bottom of the 2nd. At this point in the game there were lots of subs, and runners were kept station-to-station, but the final score was still 29-0.

In this example, the win was given to the starter with the explanation that it was "at the coach's discretion". P.S. Happened to like the call Wink, but wondered if there was an actual ruling.

There is a specific ruling and of course you are not going to like it.

NFHS rule 6 article 6 section b (2)

If the starting pitcher is removed before having pitched four or more innings and his team is ahead, the official scorer shall determine the winning pitcher to be the relief pitcher who was the most effective.

In your scenario, the starter gets a no decision and the reliever who had the best performance would get the win.

Might not sound fair...but thats what the rule say......as for the "coaches discretion"....well.....you know that is another reason why HS stats dont mean much......... ERA, wins, losses, batting averages ......all open to discretion.......
piaa_ump, I don't want to be nitpicky but "no hitter facing the minimum amount amount of batters" could still not be a perfect game just by having a double play
on a player that reached base by a walk, error, missed third strike or whatever.

Perfect means perfect-no one reaches first. Extremely rare.

I think you probably meant that with your post. Smile
