My son is in the 2004 class and did not have a great varsity coach and his summer league didn't get to any high profile tournaments. I am totally new to this whole process and so is he. He had a good summer season he batted .493. Are the prospective player forms do any good? He has been to one showcase and two camps. He has been invited to another at Christmas.
Thanks,

Understand how you feel. Our previous varsity coach did nothing for our boys. Fortunately our summer coach did, and it was great exposure. One thing we did was to send a letter and biography to each college and university near and far. Referenced his summer schedule and phone numbers to coaches. It made a big difference. Keep watching this site, it is a great help. There is also a timeline to follow on the home page that is wonderful. Good luck! The more exposure the better.
WCMOM:

Does if he have a list of schools that he is interested in? It would be best to make sure that he has contacted the coaching staff, also find out if they have a Christmas camp or showcase. Your best bet at this point is to get him exposure to the schools that he is interested in.

I don't think the high school stats mean a lot to a college coach because of the different levels of competition there are at the high school level.

GO NAVY!!!
You're not alone. Luckily my son is signing this week with a D1 but I'm trying to help a friend who's in the same position as you are in. If anything-as a non-agressive person, I've found that many of these dad's are pushing thier kids to the coaches. Hot Mama has offered some good advice regarding camps. Also-
go after that varsity coach and make him do his job-he can make calls. Also check into your other possible sources-old coaches, anyone with contacts, other players parents. I was at a major showcase last week when a mother suggested I check with our coach to see if they need a shortstop. Try every option and every contact possibility you can think of. Good luck!
Agree...with all posts above...

I have been reading on this site for almost 2 years now...

The timeline that is on the recruiting page is very useful...and helped alot.

Our high school team is so so (nice kids)...not any help from the coach. Not all his fault..(at least that's what I've told myself)...so..we became very proactive...can't emphasize that enough...

So, do not wait for the coach to come through for you (although I hope he does)

...send out letters (let son do this) and have him contact some schools to show his interest and see what the needs of that school might be...

The biggest factor ...and I attribute this to our early signing this week - was getting on a team that played where college coaches attend/watch/scout...

Now, I don't know your area at all..but I would assume their are some other posters who could lead to you some contacts..like some winter showcases and valuable camps to get your son some exposure.

Hope this helps..keep asking..

And read the threads on recruiting...lots of GREAT information...
