Hey all,
My 2016 player (oldest son) had his first HS practices on Friday (Mar. 1 here in NJ); I had to travel for my J-O-B so I would not be around Thursday evening or Friday to make sure he was all set (like any less than sane ex-coach aka dad would do!).
So I printed out the tremendous "How to Make the High School Team" from the articles section of the site, and with an additional note of encouragement, left it on his bag for him to find Thursday after school.
Anyway, after many texts, etc. I saw him Saturday (I got home after midnight on Friday) and the first thing he did was thank me for leaving the list. He said it was all stuff he knew, but havng it in one place was huge for him.
So the story leaves us to Saturday practice...he has primarlily played 1B since he was 10 years old...and had is mitt on for Friday and Saturday. Anyway, the Varsity coaches called him over and asked him if he played any other positions? His answer "I can play anywhere you need me coach". Coach said "good answer!" - told him get your glove and has him working out at SS (they are thin at SS I hear). First scrimmages are next weekend so I'm getting jazzed (even though NOT coaching will be tough).
So thanks to Coach Darrin McComas for the article, thanks to HS Baseball Web for the access and thanks to all who post for all the insight as we get ready for what will be an awesome experience...HS BASEBALL!
