Wow, no mention of Hebron. Sole possession of 2nd in 8-5A.
LP, Completely agree with you about Sherman. If people don't notice them now, they soon will come playoff time, where they will definitely make some noise!

Sherman isn't considered in our coverage area, that's why they aren't in the rankings.
In 5A, Five of the top 10 are in district 7 and 8. They will play eachother in the first round as well.
I don't know if this is the real Corbett Smith the the D_MN Sports reporter, but I'm glad someone is posting this info here since I'm not going to pay for their online service.

Is there a website that lists the 5A brackets? Looking for how the districts will line for first round and when districts will start to see their district peers.

Yep. It's the real me. Interested in what you guys have to say about the rankings, since I'm in charge of that.
Sorry that the rankings are behind the pay wall. We -- being those involved on the HS sports side -- wanted that information labeled as free, but we aren't the decision makers when it comes to that. But feel free to support local journalism, be it Web or print.

Corbett, I’m afraid that paying for online services is the future for the newspaper industry online. I know you want to keep your job. I just hope other sister online news organizations associated with Belo or others down the road don’t start it soon.
It’s interesting how most information that started out not behind the wall has now ended up behind the pay wall.

....lets make it another year where a&m consolidated and district 12-5a are unmentioned although theyre paired with 9-5a, 10-5a, and 11-5a.
Are you suggesting that we include A&M Consolidated in our coverage area and rankings? Hmm.
You tell him Corbett. No one in our area cares about a and m consolidated. Actually, no one cares about a and m either, ha ha...
Not just A&M consolidated but all of district 12-5a. I mean, they are playing Dallas schools in the playoffs for the first 3 rounds, it just seems like common sense they would be included too. But that's just me.
Luvtxball, why is it nobody cares about a&m consolidated? Just seems like an unnecessary comment meant to encite arguement...

is there a website that shows the playoff bracket pairings for all divisions? I'm not talking about specific teams, but just seeing which districts play each other in which round, how the regions are divided up, etc.
UIL website
Thanks Coach
Any love for Arlington High? 1st place in 4-5A...11-2, 22-9 overall. Wins against Coppell, Plano East, Tyler Lee, Lubbock Coronado, Weatherford twice..??? Also, finishing the year strong with 10 game win streak.
That is impressive. Go Colts.
Arlington was strongly considered. They might make the final rankings, yet.
Some of their losses, though, are pretty rough: Irving, 8-0; Frisco, 13-0; Wakeland, 13-0. I know all those teams are ranked, but still. Those are some old-fashioned beatdowns.

Arlington didn't play Frisco...only Frisco Wakeland and yes it was a beat down.
Correction Outfielder, Arlington did get beat by Frisco High 13-0. I was at that game scouting -- played at Colony High School during the Lewisville Rawlings Classic. BTW, Frisco also pounded Arlington Martin, The Colony, and Hebron in the same tournament. You guys should not get dropped too much for losing to them -- we've played them twice and they are tough!
Sorry, Corbett...Nuke...y'all are right. That Frisco game was before we got 2/3 of our outfield out to play...roundballers who were still in playoffs. Since those two rejoined team Arlington is 20-5.
Corbett, you shouldn't base a ranking in baseball off of 1 or 2 non district games. Especially play during early tournament games.
Rankings in any sport at any level are based upon the full schedule and not selected results.

It's tough not to look at early-season or tournament results if you are trying to compare teams between districts. That's really what rankings are all about. I think Arlington is a good squad; that district has some pretty nice teams in Martin, Paschal and Weatherford. On the whole, it's a better district than 9-5A, 10-5A and 11-5A, in my opinion. But some schools in those districts are ranked, in large part because of their non-district wins, and the quality of their losses.
In the end, who knows? That's why the playoffs are always fun.

My money is on Robstown for 3A.
Can someone post up the newest rankings and player of the week article for today?

Baseball player of the week (5/02): Bishop Lynch's Andy Alig

What he did: Alig had two wins in Bishop Lynch’s TAPPS 5A playoff-opening series against Houston Christian. In Game 1, Alig entered in relief with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and got a strikeout and fly out to end the inning. He pitched two more scoreless innings for the win. In Game 3, he capped a complete game shutout with his 12th strikeout. He also got the game-winning hit in a 3-0 win.
Who is he? A 5-10, 175-pound junior right-handed pitcher
The stats: For the season, Alig has a 6-2 record and three saves. He’s struck out 75, walked 32, and has an ERA of 2.53 in 58 innings.
He said it: “That was probably the best feeling in the world. … Our seniors, I’ve been wanting to give them a playoff series win since last year.” — On getting his 12th strikeout in the series clincher
Coach said it: “If we are in a situation where it’s the seventh inning, where he’s going to throw 25 pitches or so, we’ll let him throw his bullpen work like that. He’s done that all year.” — Clayton Nester
Did you know? Bishop Lynch’s series win was sweet revenge. Houston Christian swept Lynch by a combined score of 35-5 in last year’s TAPPS playoffs.

It's interesting that Frisco went from #6 to #5 after dropping two straight district games; one of which was to Frisco Liberty (12-19).
I noticed this too; but they did have a big win against centennial. I'm guessing liberty was a launching pad Friday due to the 7 total bombs. Just my 2 cents though
Somebody had to be ranked there. McKinney lost, Poteet lost, Frisco lost, Rockwall lost... it was a bloodletting in the back half of those rankings.
Rankings mean nothing now!! It is do or die from here on out.
quote:Arlington was strongly considered. They might make the final rankings, yet.
Some of their losses, though, are pretty rough: Irving, 8-0; Frisco, 13-0; Wakeland, 13-0. I know all those teams are ranked, but still. Those are some old-fashioned beatdowns.

So...uuhhmmm...Mr. Smith...just wondering what are your thoughts now?
