The bad news is that it was only issued for football.  So it may be very frustrating news for athletes and families in other NCAA sports.  But the potential good news is that it may lead to loosened redshirt guidelines for other sports in the not too distant future.

Here's the info about the "blanket waiver" if you're interested:

A “blanket waiver” was recently approved for Division I football to exempt participation in postseason football games from counting against the “four-game limit” for a D1 football player to be considered a redshirt for the 2024 football season.  This waiver exempts participation in any postseason game.

This means that it will be possible for a player on a team that plays in a conference championship game and advances all the way to the Championship game of the new 12-team College Football Playoff to appear in as many as 9 games this season and still be considered a “redshirt!”
