My 2023 is 14 in the south so a year younger than his classmates. He has desperately wanted to reclassify to the 2024 class (and he is definitely a better fit). We scoffed at the idea but now that the decision has been made or go 100% virtual for the upcoming school year, is it crazy or illegal to sit out a year? Virtual is ok but definitely lacking in actual learning. He has already completed Freshmen year. I know he would miss a year of h.s. ball but he plays at a top travel team in the area.

2023 was the youngest kid in his class and we decided to home school and repeat 6th grade.  Best decision we made.  Noticeably more mature relative to peers.  Great grades.  Admittedly not the same situation as you.  I don't understand all the nuances (and there might be unintended bad consequences) but it seems like if you are thinking forward to college baseball than isn't all recruiting done by the spring of senior year?  If he did lose eligibility and is willing to miss that last season then wouldnt he benefit for recruiting by being physically more mature?  Couldn't you explain it all off as he was young and, with covid, we decided to academically redshirt him?
