My 2021 grandson, who plays OF/1B, was having a great Junior year until Covid-19 cancelled all but a few games of his baseball season. He worked really hard and got Bigger, Stronger and Faster. He is 6’3” 205 lbs. and very athletic. He improved his Exit Velocity to where he regularly hits 100+mph on HitTrax (102.7mph max), Runs a 6.92 60yd Dash, and Has easy Raw Arm Velocity of 90mph.  We were hoping that a great school season and Summer Showcases would get him a number of D1 offers. But now the NCAA has extended the dark period through July and given all current players an extra year of eligibility resulting in fewer Available roster spots and potential scholarship money. Hopefully they’ll be a few August Showcases where he can be seen by some D1 schools and find a good fit.

Agreed, 2021 recruiting has been turned on its head!  First off, he should keep training and playing as much as possible this summer!  With those metrics, I'm sure he's already on some schools' lists.  Find a good fall team that will play in events typically attended to by colleges . . . The PG events in the fall have been well attended.  But maybe more importantly, showcases are ok, but school specific camps are always better as long as the coaches know he's coming.

Reach out, be proactive, send as much video to coaches as possible.  Have his HS school and travel coaches reaching out to schools!

Offers will still be made, it's just harder to get in front of them!

Have him watch these!! GREAT STUFF on recruiting (what to put in an email, video, etc.)

Dead period and what these coaches are doing and recommending!! Tremendous information.

Rudd also has a series "Quarantine Baseball Coaches" where he chats with 1-8 College Coaches at a time.

Find it, subscribe and enjoy!

Fall events are going to intense and crazily attended.

Send email and video to coaches! They're asking you too. (Watch videos).

Recruiting is still happening, albiet slower, but video now gets you on the radar to be seen live, when they can.  Get on a team that is going to Jupiter in October. That place was swarmed last year and will definitely be THE EVENT again this year.

Where does he live? CA has always had more talent than available roster spots, and it's going to be even worse for the next 3-4 years. I will second that he needs to be contacting schools with his verifiable metrics now. Imagine how crazy it's going to be when the dead period ends. Coaches will have a long list of players they want to see live, they won't be looking searching for new prospects.

If I remember correctly, Peach’s grandson is an ok student (mid 3 GPA) who plays for a well known program with lots of early commits (so that probably makes him feel like he’s further behind than he is).  Kid was powerful but raw (I’m pretty sure there was posted video at some point).  In the northern part of CA.

Peach- get your grandson to the PBR event in Lathrop on June 13!  Then sit his butt down in front of a computer and have him send the video/write up/ stats from that event to every coach who might be interested. This is not the time to reach (in my opinion)  I would highly recommend reaching out to JUCO coaches as well. Look for programs that place a high number of kids in programs he would love to play for.  Not the ones who win championships (I’m in SoCal so I have no idea where to suggest) But the ones who get their kids transfers.   My son (a 2022) works out with a local JUCO coach. They have more kids than they know what to do with.  “Honestly, if they aren’t a drop down from a GOOD D-1 they have no shot of playing for us next year”.

Exit Velo should be measured from a tee. The moving ball will add velocity but either way...

Plan on playing in Aug/Sept/Oct.  With the shortened draft, additional eligibility, more redshirts, and the increased talent level at the JC level there won't be a huge need for 2021s. In fact I would be surprised if most programs had more than 5/6. It's really not a good situation for them. I would seriously weigh the academic part of the school more heavily than I might have. This is not a death sentence, it's more of a way of saying that it might be wise to look at some weaker baseball, better education type places.

A friend of mine's son played in Kansas City and Columbia, Missouri this weekend and said there were about 5-6 coaches at every game they played.  So coaches are still out there.  He also said there were a couple of guys who coach HS that were there as eyes, ears, radar guns, cameras and stopwatches for a few colleges.  The D1 guys will figure out how to get information.

We (for the most part) are not playing in CA yet.   Hopefully in the next few weeks so the boys can knock the rust off with live reps (only so much you can do in a cage). And then we can get some coaches and scouts out there.

I feel ya Peach49.  With numbers like those, he should get some looks come August.  He needs to be ready when the time comes.  I agree with others that he should be emailing coaches at schools he has targeted including his measurables and links to video.  These coaches will be using their network of reliable sources to get more information about any kid they like the look of and will be ready to move once the dead period is over.
