Video each individual pitch but stop in between pitches. Then go back and delete the clips that were nonevents. Don’t automatically delete a pitch that is taken however. Take a look at it first. Sometimes the way a hitter takes a pitch can provide insight. And only send the best two or 3 clips that you get. That’s all a coach needs.

RJM is spot on. What a coach looks at, from the preferred angle that I showed you, is :  set up, stance, position of the hands, the load (or lack of it), the bat path, the path of the hands, stride, hip & shoulder separation, weight transfer, how much the head moves, how long the barrel stays in the hitting zone, and balance at the finish. How a player does those things tells a coach whether or not a kid has good swing mechanics. Good swing mechanics tell a coach that a kid is more likely to project to be able to hit next level pitching (whatever next level happens to be). All those things can be taught (to some extent) by a good hitting instructor if you can find one - and good luck finding one. If your hitting instructor is talking about launch angle you have the wrong one. If your player is caught up in chasing exit velocity numbers he is focused on the wrong thing. For a position player, developing good swing mechanics is how to get recruited to play college baseball.

And before I get all the haters telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about, I will tell you that I’m not a hitting instructor and I can’t teach the things I talked about. I have learned to evaluate a swing as a result of my son being taught by the 2 best instructors that I know - both of which played in the big leagues and both of which make their living teaching high level players how to hit a baseball. One guy is a private instructor in the north Dallas area and the other (who worked with my son the most) is the AA hitting instructor for the Chicago Cubs. If you want to try and tell those 2 guys they don’t know what they are talking about have at it.
