If you are refering to Redlands JC in OKlahoma one of my sons summer teammates signed with them this year and I beleive under the new coach it will soon be a much more competitive program.

Also it is currently a DII and as soon as the dorms are completed it will move up to DI status in either in the spring of2005 or 2006.

The Redlands (CA) program is in the conference known as SCIAC. Some of the teams are very competitive at the DIII level - Cal Lutheran for one. Others, like Occidental would have a tough time beating a mediocre Southern California high school team. Redlands is pretty much in the middle of the pack. Their coach is young and aggressive and is trying to build the program. Redlands is very expensive as are the other SCIAC schools - if you can qualify for financial aid or are willing to pay to play, it is an option. However, word from many I speak to about the SCIAC and other similar DIII programs in Southern California - competition is very inconsistent and oftentimes players feel like they are back in high school - complete with having to work their fields and raise money.

As mentioned, Redlands (CA) plays in the SCIAC, and the baseball is pretty competitive.

I would disagree with the 'high school' comparison mentioned earlier. Nearly all of the fields and campuses are very nice. In fact, most are small schools in southern california communities undergoing a 're-birth'.

The SCIAC plays a Friday afternoon, Saturday double-header schedule. Helpful in that the guys miss very few classes and all competitors are within an hour or so driving distance.

Last year, Redlands had a disappointing season, especially in conference. They did win the California Invitation spring break tournament, beating some quality east coast teams.

Well, if I'd had an extra umbrella I would have offered it. Smile

As it was, we got really friendly squeezing underneath the one we found in the trunk of the car. Of course, it was tough, since we had put all the extra clothes that were also tossed in the trunk. We were the couple wearing shirts, sweatshirts and a jacket with a towel and/or blanket wrapped around our legs trying to keep our posteriors dry on the cement bleachers. biglaugh
