Tournament Time is peaking over the horizon and Districts One and Two did serious battle on Tuesday:

D-1 Sullivan South continues to slide as the Rebels show signs they may have peaked too soon. Dobyns-Bennett's Nathan Fritz scattered 6 hits and fanned 8 as the Indians clipped South 6-2. The Indians have won 11 of 12 and stand 7-2 in the Big Seven. South is 5-3 with 2 conf. games to play. Science Hill was off, but still leads the pack. Bristol fell out of the league race surrendering 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th at Sullivan East to lose 11-10.

District 2: Jefferson Co. held on to its 1 game lead in the IMAC by virtue of a doubleheader split with Morristown East. The Patriots (9-3) scored twice with two out in the bottom of the 7th to win the opener 7-6. The runs scored on an infield grounder and a throwing error. M-East won the nightcap 11-4 as Derek Marshall hurled the win. The Hurricanes hammered 17 hits.

Greeneville and Morristown West remained tied for second (8-4) by splitting a pair in Greeneville. In game one, Matt Spencer threw a no-hitter and fanned 8 in a 5 inning affair which West won 12-1. Spencer hit two home runs. In game two, Greeneville's Nathan Blevins worked out of a bases-loaded no-outs jam in the 7th to preserve a 6-4 victory. The Greene Devils scored 5 in the 5th to take the win. Chris Day and Chase Greenway keyed the uprising. West's Spencer also homered in game two to raise his season's total to 17. A crowd of ML scouts looked on.
Jeff. Co. and M-West close out the season with a doubleheader at West next Monday.

The top seeds for District's One and Two were set last night with some high drama in Johnson City and Morristown.

District One: Science Hill showed that early season rumors about its demise were greatly exaggerated. The Hilltoppers clinched a share of the Big Seven with a 3-2 win over arch-rival Dobyns-Bennett. Shortstop Justin Motte, recently recovered from a couple of weeks on the DL with an ankle injury, homered to snap a 2-2 tie and provide the victory. Matt McGahey got the win by pitching his way out of a jam nearly every inning. The Va. Tech signee gave up 6 hits and 6 walks. D-B, which had won 13 of its last 14 left 11 runners on base. Nathan Fritz pitched well enough to win and Brantley Kilgore got 4 of the 6 hits McGahey surrendered. The 'Toppers locked up the #1 seed in the District which begins Saturday.

District Two: Jefferson County found a way to beat Matt Spencer: wear down his arm and remove the bat from his hands. The Patriots' Chad Coley slapped an opposite field single in the top of the 7th to chase home the only run of the game, then saw Travis Jenkins put the final touches on his sterling shutout effort to give Jeff. Co. the InterMountain crown. Spencer, who threw a staggering 146 pitches, gave up only 4 hits ( 2 in the 7th), but 6 errors by the defense extended the pitch count. The U of No. Carolina signee walked 3 and struck out 18 but could offer no help at the plate as he was walked 3 times.
Coley took over the mound in Game 2 and appeared to be on his way to putting the Trojans away taking a 6-3 lead into the 5th. But sophomore lefthander Aaron Griffin came on in relief for West and shut down the Patriots. The slumbering Trojan bats awoke and, sandwiched around some Coley walks, West plated 7 in the 6th to seize a 10-6 win. Lance Wild's bases-clearing hit was the major blow. Griffin gave up no hits and only one baserunner in his 3 inning stint. The victory gives MW the #2 seed in the D-2 tourney which begins Saturday at West.
So Region One is ready to begin its 2 week search for a team to go to Memphis with Farragut. The major goal is to avoid being the team that faces the Admirals in the May 21 sub-state game.
District One: We had Sunday action in Kingsport and the cream is rising to the top. In the semi-finals, Dobyns-Bennett beat Sullivan South 7-2. Nathan Fritz was the pitching hero scattering 7 hits and fanning 7. Duran Ferguson and Brantley Kilgore delivered key run-scoring hits.
D-B will face Science Hill tonight in the winner's bracket finals for a berth in next week's Regional tourney. The Hilltoppers beat Tennessee High 12-8 in yesterday's other game. "Topper Owen Adams delivered with a bases loaded single that eventually cleared the bases following some throwing errors. M. McGahey (8-1) got the win. The loss wasted a 4-4 run at the plate by the Vikings' Brandon Anderson. Both teams combined for 24 hits.
Tenn. High and Sull. South play an elimination game prior to the D-B vs S. Hill contest.

District Two: at Morristown West. Two semi-final games. 5:00 Morristown East vs Jefferson Co. 7:30 Morristown West vs Greeneville.
