Kid managed to snap his bat right before a tournament. Any suggestions for an off the rack wood bat (dicks sporting goods / academy) or should I try to 1 day ship a Baum or something similar.

Where's the tournament?
Son snapped his AXE wood bat during last ab at Lakepoint. We head home going to order a couple more, he says no and goes to Dicks picks out a LS 29 dollar bat goes 7-10 and now won't let me buy him a "better" bat.
Other kids are now borrowing, wonder boy. At 29 bucks it's the first time I'm fine with borrowing a wood bat
Son is a big fan of the Mizuno pro series....he has gotten them at Dick's....not cheap at $119 or something like that, but they hold up really well
Dick's sporting has really good inexpensive bats. What I did was to buy one good expensive bat and one inexpensive one he could use in case he broke the better one during a tournament. Louisville slugger is one inexpensive.
Thanks, I'll take a look at dicks, found that they have 20% off right now also with in store pickup. His last was a Brett bros with fiberglass over handle part I think. I was looking at the axe bat but I can only find it in 31".
The Louisville slugger is a very good inexpensive bat. Team mate borrowed two kids bats in the same game, my oldest and our short stop - in that order. Broke my sons $30 LS and then on the next AB, proceed to break the SS $150 nice maple bat.

Yea, I think I'll go with the cheap solution as I can see issues with borrowing/breaking anything nice.
My son is pitching in a local men's wood bat league.
I am happy he sawing off others bats instead of breaking his own.
My son just had his wood bat for the past 2 years and wood bat adult league this summer break on a hard slider in on the hands. That $80 bat provided heroic service and hundreds of balls in BP. But he's got an identical bat, but I somehow think this one won't last as long.

That is the definition of "Operator Error".

Because I've seen so many kids go on bat breaking sprees, a couple of years back I gave my son a "discount bat" that he'll let another kid use during those events.
Oddly enough, no one has ever broke it.
Why is the Baum not more popular? Almost impossible to break. Easy to swing. Son loves it. Anyone can borrow it.

I think the Baum bat is a great product that fills a niche. And they actually own a lion's share of that niche. Problem is that niche is small. Most players either want a true wood bat or a high performance bat. Baum is neither. It is very durable and plays and feels similar to wood. But it is a composite bat... wood shell, foam core, fiberglass inner shell. Many will pick "tradition" and "pure", perhaps over smart.

Concerning performance, are you saying that wood will outperform it in distance?

No. By most accounts, Baum performs very similar to wood. But most good metal and metal/composites will outperform Baum and true wood.
I think this review provides a pretty good summary...

I am still surprised players would permit sharing their bats at the HS level. I guess I will buy the first one for my kid and he is responsible for the rest.
I still have my last wood bat from when I was a kid. Screws, nails, and duct tape holding it together. I'd lend it to you, but don't think it would be permitted. And, I'd want it back.
