After watching the Naaman/Rowlett game, it may be one and done for the Eagles. Naaman dominated the game on both sides of the ball.

The Rockwall/Rowlett series should really be a good one. Especially with each team getting to play one at home. The crowds should be rowdy and there should be some good baseball played. It will be interesting to see how the pitching matchups line up. Rockwall has 3 quality starters. How does Rowletts top 2/3 matchup with Rockwall's if anyone out there has an opinion. I'm really looking forward to my son's first taste of varsity playoff competition. Good luck to both teams and may the best team win.

Rockwall girls got off to a good start on the softball side of the playoff's with a 9-0 win yesterday against Sachse. On to play Skyline this Friday and then the big showdown with Garland next week. Now that will be a good series right therer. Looking forward to both my son and daughter going far in the playoffs.

Good luck to all the teams in the playoffs on both the baseball and softball side.

Well it appears that Rowlett's pitching is not deep enough to get them past the mighty Rock. They evidently ran out 2 of the top 3 on Saturday and Naaman lit them up (both).

I think game 1 goes to the Rock and game 2 to Rowlett. After that the Rock should cruise in game 3 to face Newman Smith in round 2.

Just a prediction.

I agree that the series will go 3 games. Depending on how deep each team gets into their pitching staffs in the first 2 games will be key. Should be one of the better first round matchups.

I'll give a slight edge to Rowlett.

It's going to be interesting to see if Rowlett can bounce back after getting beat by Naaman. Although there wasn't a run scored until the 4th inning...Naaman looked like they were in control of the game.
Rowlett has to play alot better than what they did on Saturday or the Rock will give them an early exit. JMO

It don't get much better than this. Old writer use to tab it as "The showdown on the Shore" Lake Ray Hubbard seperates the two schools and they all play summer select ball together. Intensity will be abounding and the hair will be up on everyone's neck. Ladder sales in Rockwall doubled on a day when some aren't buying squat.

So, who pitches when, OP? If I was a coach (cough cough) wearing maroon, I'd want to match Hamblin against Clinard if it can happen in game 1 or game 2. If I was wearing a yellow-jacket (cough cough), I'd pitch Lackie in game 2.

Swingdoc, this coaching thing is really quite simple.

OP, the Bulldogs play at the same time on Friday, so assuming I remain loyal, I think I'll do Thursday, maybe they won't need Saturday, but if they do, I bet that Saturday game will be a screamer.

The Rock will win in 3 with Lackie getting the win in the third game. Baxter and SNoble will carry the team offensively.

11-5a fan, I don't think you are giving enough credit to the Naaman pitcher in that game. Because he has had to mainly catch this year, people do not realize how good he is.

That said, Rockwall has 2 very good pitchers and more talent on their JV than most programs Varsitys. But games are not won on talent alone. Rowlett will fight. Should be fun.

Thanks for your insight. However, the Naaman pitcher is no surprise to anyone that plays summer ball. He has pitched any many big games and everyone in the District knows who he is if they have played any competitive summer ball at all.

As for JV Talent, I believe that the Rock and Rowlett JV's duked it out on a couple of occasions this year and both games were close with a split in the series, with a marathon 14 inning affair, which I think Rowlett won....(not sure on that). Sooo, talent at the JV level should be about the same, depending on how many got moved up for both schools.

I still think that Rockwall has the edge in pitching and offense. I do give the edge to Rowlett on the defensive side; however that alone will not get it done even though "Defense Wins Championships".

I personally think it will come down to senior leadership as both teams have several under classmen that fill the starting lineups.

Rockwall hasn't moved up any of it's JV players for the playoffs.

The Haney kid is a special talent. Saw him throw in the fall and really liked his stuff. Naaman could win a series or two before it's over.

Rowlett beat Rockwall already once this year 6-1. It was a better game than the score indicates. The score was 3-1 in the 6th. Rockwall didn't show up to play that day. We had just been run ruled the night before by Tyler Lee and the guys were just not into the game for some reason. We looked like you know what that day in my opinion. More than a couple of guys were playing hurt and we lost Cade Baxter with a bad ankle and he didn't even suit up.

I feel like Coach Payne will have the guys ready this time around. I think Coach Payne deserves a lot of credit getting this last half of the season turned around. He made some tough decisions that ended up being right. We had a difficult season after losing so many talented players and him coming in to fill Talley's shoes. He deserves a lot of the credit for getting the guys where they are right now. Good luck coach!!

First games are not do or die when you have a 3 game series. Game 2 is the biggie in my eyes. When you win that first game your mindset becomes "Now all we have to do is split the last two" and there you are fighting for your life in game 3. Game 2 winner has alot of MO going into game 3. JMHO

I agree with all comments........I think we are in consensus that Rockwall should take this series as they have in the past when these two meet in the playoffs.

I still say the intangible will be leadership, not only by dugout presence but performance leadership as well.

I did pull out of a golf tournament to make sure I would be in town for the Showdown on the Shore. These two schools bring out the best in each other. Both Coaches respect each other and players respect each other as well. They get a little more rowdy in Rowlett and 11-5A than the East Texas crowds but it's never bothered the Rockwall Nine. In fact, The Louder They Are ~ The better Rockwall likes it.

I don't watch or know much about summer ball. I do know that I saw him throw 2 great games this year, and I think he would have done the same thing to Rockwall's group on those nights. Therefore, the Naaman game is not a good measuring stick for how Rowlett is playing right now. They spanked a good LC team the game before that.

My reference to Rock's JV was only to show how strong a talent pool they have. I was not saying JVs have anything to do with this series.

I can't stand predictions, but my hierocracy knows no bounds.

I have to agree that the NF game is not a reflection of Rowlett's team. They are solid and will show up for the Rock.

I disagree with Cool's prediction of a 2 game sweep. I believe it will go 3. I'm not much on predictions, but the team with the fewest errors in game 3 will win.

Who got 2nd in your district? Lee or Horn? when and where are they playing SG? If they are going three, SG is done. They only have one pitcher.

Swingdoc, I totally agree. When I was at Arl. Bowie, those folks thought I was crazy for throwing my #1 in game 2.

My reasoning was simple, if we win game 1, who do I want on the hill to close out the series? If we lose game 1, who do I want on the hill to keep the series alive? I'll worry about game 3 when it gets here! Besides I had plenty of confidence in my #2!

Lee finished 1st, Horn 2nd. Not sure where the rest of the teams will be playing. Horn has a good chance to make some noise. Lee can hit, but I don't think they have much on the hill after their #1 guy.

I believe the rock knows a thing or two about the importance of game 2 rather then game 1. It was 2004 i think when they went to the regional finals, and never won a game 1 during that entire platoff stretch. And just some history behind the battle between these 2 teams, Rockwall has lost the first game in the 2 previous meetings between these teams in recent years and still come out victorious (including 2004 playoff stretch).

I have watched rockwall play a few times this year and they have talent, alot more then there record shows. Those seniors need to step it up and they know it, and i believe they will.

With all of this hype towards this series and excitment building up around it, i just might have to come up for this one.

Most if not all players have played together on one team or another since living in Lake Ray Hubbard area.Most hang out together all year around except during HS season.They date girls from the rival school.Their parents hang out and everyone knows everybodys business,how can it get any better than
that....Friends againist friends BRAGGING RIGHTS all summer long.

Didn't Jesuit re-do their baseball field this past summer and put in an artificial turf infield?

Last time i was at Jesuit in the fall it had not added any seating. It will be a over flow crowd at all three games if it goes three.

Man....this is great stuff....by the way....does anyone know the pitching rotation for the Rock? I've heard rumors, but don't know the truth yet!

Southpaw, Come on up...it should be a great series. I know I'm looking real forward to it. Brings back a ton of memories for me when I pitched at McKinney.

Funneldrill, DeSoto put us (McKinney) out of the playoffs my Sophomore and Junior years. We got em' my senior year though and went all the way to Austin. Where is Coach Jones these days? He's probably a scout somewhere would be my guess.
