I remember the event well and was pretty big deal in Chicago as Rick Monday was a fan favorite of Cubs. Remember a few articles this summer for the 30th anniversary of it and Monday said he still gets asked about it frequently and gets scores of letters to this day. Could be wrong but I think he still has the flag.
I was at the game with my HS friend (and Garvey's secretary at the time)! Happened so fast! A few thought an animal got on the field. A little fanfare during the outcome, yet more so afterwards, and then a lot more after that!
Rick Monday will also be known as having unbelievable numbers in college (at ASU 1965 D1 Champs) and is in ASU and D1 HoF. Will also be known as being traded for "Billy Buck", and a HoF "Eck"!
Also, Monday has aged a wee bit to very little!
And when the Supreme Court came out with their ruling about flag burning, it affected my opinion about the SC rulings, for a bit!
RZ, wish we got together in Madison. Thanks for the memories. Send me some Great Dane!
