Sometimes you need a break and my son got a big one this evening...

He was traded straight up for a big leaguer...

Here is the announcement on MLB Trade Rumors...

Rays Acquire Ryan Roberts From Diamondbacks

By Dan Mennella [July 24 at 10:21pm CST]

The Rays have acquired utility infielder Ryan Roberts from the Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league second baseman Tyler Bortnick, the clubs announced.

We'll miss the Rays...

But he is flying into Reno Nevada tomorrow to join the Diamondback's AAA team...

He's beside himself with joy... PTL

CD,

Congrats to Tyler and your family. Heard about the trade and just had the chance to check out where he ended up. A long time friend lives fairly near there so I'll have to tell him to go catch a game.

Tyler might want to adjust to the altitude before he tries stealing Big Grin

Good luck to him - I'm sure the Rays will miss him...
Reno is hard to beat. Sunny 85% of the time, 90+ summers but it actually cools down at night. Big enough to have everything you want but small enough to have soul. Plenty of things to do, not just the casinos, and its proximity to Lake Tahoe, mountains, fishing, hiking.. great place.

I'd love my son to someday play against the Reno Aces.

So happy for you, CD! Congrats! AAA will be fun! Need to buy some suits or at least dress slacks for those plane rides. Enjoy!

Lois - a pleasant surprise to hear from you indeed!

I am so grateful for the response that has been generated here from everyone. Baseball will make you supersticious and I am probably more supersticious than anyone with respect to baseball. It is a fickle sport. When things are going good, I swear my feet don't touch the ground. There have been times however when I am not sure if there is any more base hits left in the tank and when the next one is coming frankly.

I don't want to sound greedy or ungracious but the goal is one level higher. We are thrilled with the break he has received but still fighting, clawing, and scratching for that elusive goal that may or may not come. Its been years in the making and just maybe, maybe he'll be fortunate enough to hear his name called one more time.
CD, I remember you posting a long time ago asking why your son's name wasn't called (in the draft). Look how far he's come. He's in AAA because of one reason, he's good enough to be in the show.

When that call comes, and I'm frankly sure it will, you can write a book about the emotions that come with baseball. I've noticed one common trait exists amongst parents and players at the higher levels: tenacity.

Good luck, and when that call comes can you forward it? Cool
