better yet...who cares?
Thriller...I'm as good at cynicism and sarcasm as anyone.
We'd like to keep it at a minimum on this site because there are so many young men on this site and they don't need negative experiences.
While it might not be important to you and to me, it is important to him and to his teammates and to the team at the other school.

We've heard so much about HC on this site it was almost nauseating. Yesterday, they got SMOKED 14-2. In baseball, it can happen to anyone. Just let us stop all of this meaningless dribble and show us on the field.
------
When I was at St. Rita, Mt. Carmel had a pitcher named Denny McLain. He was actually the first pitcher I faced whose fastball actually "wizzed" by me and "popped" into the catcher's mitt. I think he finished his career at about 58-7 while at Mt. Carmel. In 1961 and 1962, Rita played Carmel for the Catholic League championship at McKinley Park in a best 2 out of 3 series. Rita had won the Catholic League Championship beating Fenwick 2 straight games at the old Comiskey Park. Well...we were confident that we could beat Mt. Carmel in 1961 and 1962.
Guess what?
Mt. Carmel pitched a soft-tosser named Leroy Kawicki (sp) against us and he won the 1st and the 3rd game and MC won the Catholic League in 1961. Denny McLain, the fastballer lost the 2nd game to St. Rita in the championships in 1961.
In 1962, in a similar scenario, a guy named Jim Darrah, threw more junk than a junk man used to carry in those old horse and carriage wagons that used to ply the alleys of Chicagoland years ago. He beat us the 1st and 3rd game and we beat Denny McLain in the 2nd game. The Caravan won in 1962.
Denny McLain wound up being drafted by the White Sox and then was traded to Detroit where he helped team with a lefty (forgot his name) to win the World Series in the late '60's). Too, Denny won 30 games that year and I believe he was the Cy Young winner or the League MVP. Not sure which. Memory fades as you get "older".
My point: You still have to play the games. You still have to make the plays. If you look past someone, they'll beat you. Hard to measure "heart" in a player. Lots of players have talent you would die for but have no heart.

I thought I'd go on and post some scores and poof there it is all over about who is better who is this who is that.. geez... enough is enough....Denny Mc that is refreshing to read about...some old time ballers...good stuff. And from the city that is even better...
