Wood bats for bp. Strangely, only a handful of us swing wood for bp (d3). I'm a little up tight about my bats getting worn out (flaking, etc.) so I have a few. My older bats I let really anybody use if I have it pulled out of my bag. My teammates know that when I have brand new wood that it's not to be touched until I at least get my money's worth out of it. Then there are the juniors and seniors that I've played with for 2 or 3 years that know how to swing wood better than the young guys. They get to borrow the newer wood. Basically with a wood bat, as with any, it's your call. If you don't want to hastle anybody to pay you back, or don't think your teammates would, be selfish. If you like the stick and want to share, just make sure you only let the guys that really know how to swing it use it....if they ask!
Have to agree with Baseballdad, my son always shares his. He tries to discourage anyone using his gamer but will always have his spares out and they are always the same make and model. It's just that "gamer" is special.

With metal, they are always there for anyone. Kids always think because a homerun is hit with a bat, it's special and they want to try. He usually goes through 2 a year any way. (we play mostly wood)...
My son shares his equipment alot. But nothing is more irritating than when I hear a parent say that they do not buy this or that for their son because they will just use blank's stuff. Alot of these families have alot more money than we do. We have had to replace alot of his equipment because of sharing. He is a Catcher too so his gloves and protective gear need to be replaced often. It gets expensive. It makes it bad when you see another kid take your sons gear and then throw it down knowing the money that you have invested. So maybe I am the odd one here but it does bug me. He does share though. Now what bugs him is kids taking his stuff without asking. they have even gone into his equipment bag to get out his favorite bat to use never once checking with him first.

But doesn't it irritate you if say your son goes to a camp with some buddies. Their one Buddy never brings his own stuff and expects them to supply everything for him. Because he had baseball class during the week and doesn't feel like bringing his stuff home. I call that ill prepared. All players should come prepared to play the game. Not depend on others to do it for them.
I don't mind if my son shares his bats for an AB here or there for a change of pace. But it gets on my nerves if a teammate uses ONLY his bat period. They've only got so much life in them to begin with not to mention the chance for breakage with a wood bat or denting an aluminum. Not to mention knocking the dirt off the metal cleats while at the plate and scuffing the heck out of it. Are they going to replace it? I highly doubt it.

I like him to share and be a good teammate but I think the players need to bring their own equipment too.
what if a guy used your son's expensive wooden bat that you just paid for with your hard working money. and your son lets some1 else use the bat and the player gets struck out and then slams the bat on the plate and cracks it. what would be your response and what would u say to the kid or his parents? i would like to see what yall would do.
This is a tough one as I want my son to be a good teammate, but I have asked him not to let anyone use his bats. This also puts him in a fun spot having to tell teammates not to use his equipment. For one they are expensive and the more kids that use them the sooner they will have to be replaced. I had a parent tell me that it was crazy to spend that amount of money on a bat he was going to tell his son to use someone else's bat. I felt that was rude. He did not want to spend the money, but was thought it was fine to take advantage of another parent who spent the dollars. Crazy world.
You're put in a tough spot when your teammate asks to use your bat. I don't let anyone use my wood-- which is what we use up here in my league for high school ball.. just because, come'on if you're a ballplayer-- you should have ALL of your own equiptment. You wouldn't show up at a football game and ask to borrow someone else's helmet ot show up at a hoops game hioping to borrow a pair of shoes...

Get your own equiptment!
