Showcase Invite

My '09 recieved an invite to a JUCO showcase. It is from one of the top JUCOs in the state. The letter was the form type, "Dear Top Prospect". Due to football, and the 4+hrs, and being an 09, he's not going to go. My question is, respond with regrets, throw it the trash? We know the show will go on and it was a mass mailing. But could it help to acknowledge he got it? Thanks in advance for the help.

Even though it was a mass mailing, it never hurts to reply. Thank them for their interest and, explain why he's not attending, and tell them you'll look forward to an invitation next year.

At the risk of being cliche, never leave a stone unturned and never burn bridges.

You just never know when a "positive" contact might manifest itself in the future.
