bags, my thoughts would be they were trying to get a feel for
1- how heavy the current & recruiting interest from their competion was Smile
2- to gauge whether you were serious about current offers/opportunities from other schools Smile
3- if they didn't move on you now, could they string you along to be available later Frown

Not sure why they would ask "now or April" but my response would be "As soon as the right offer comes in!"

They are asking him if he plans to sign during the November early signing period. If not, he cannot sign until next April, which obviously opens the window quite a bit and allows the school to get an early springtime assessment prior to the signing period.
The answer to this question also helps to gauge the interest in the athlete from other programs.

Dominick, Apply to the colleges where you/son would go without baseball. You have no way of knowing who will call come Jan, Feb, etc. If one of those schools is interested, then he can apply at that time. There are kids applying in August for the fall term. You don't want to risk though if there's a school where he's likely to want to go regardless of what other opportunties he might have.
Bee is "spot on". They want to put your son in a specific category as they decide which player's they will offer.

You still have time to contact the coaches at the programs you are interested in.

I'm sure this was a fact finding mission. Your response should be ...Why?...will you be making an offer coach?

If this is the school you want to attend...or 1 of the schools your interested in, then bring things to a head by asking if they are going to make an early offer.
Isn't that being a little agressive? If they are going to make an early offer, would they not just do it? We are making an official trip there in a couple of weeks, so we will see what it all means!

It is very hard to get a kid to seperate looking at a school for the school and not baseball. My son seems to like any school that likes him!
RHP05Parent is right on, when the right offer comes in, you will know! For us, it happened on the first official visit, and we had two other official visits set up. But when our son saw the campus, the baseball facilities and talked with an academic advisor, he decided that was the place for him. It is the right fit, he is extremely excited and happy, and that is all the really matters.
