Scott Silverstein, a 2008 graduate of St. John’s College High School, was diagnosed Wednesday at Sibley Hospital with a torn labrum. The attending doctor, Ben Shaffer (Washington Nationals Orthopedic Surgeon), performed a scope of Silverstein's shoulder due to continued soreness.

Silverstein, who was drafted by the Washington Nationals last week in the 32nd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball first-year player draft, is expected to be able to make a successful recovery after an eight-month rehabilitation program. Silverstein (6-5, 210) will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall and is expected to pitch for the baseball team in February 2009.

Scott had the benefit of leverging the UVA physical therapy over the summer and early fall and has made a full recovery He is pitching at full range of motion/pain free and regularly in bullpen at UVA. He should be part of the rotation mix in early March ---- also will get some opportunities at DH and firstbase. On another note, Danny Hultzen has been extremely effective and impressive during his pitching opportunities and should be a very important part of their pitching staff this spring.
Interesting. I understand the unbalanced schedule in the large conferences in football, but same applies in baseball? Logistics can't support ACC teams playing every other school at least once per year? I would think that although you couldn't get a weekend with each, you could get a weekday for the balance of teams and then rotate the weekends and weekdays over the course of several years so it would balance out. I guess too far to travel during the week? Or some other reason.
