Hi,

My son has had request for a video and we are not sure the of the best process for getting one. He will be going to the an event in Dec where Skillshow will be attending. Has anyone used their service and would you recommend it?

I guess another option would be to hire someone locally to produce one. I don't see any price for Skillshow so I can't compare much there.

Any opinions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much, Lynn

I agree with TR. We bit the very expensive bullet and did the Skillshow video, but had a few coaches comment it was the best video they had ever seen. It also gives your son a nice piece of evidence 25 years from now to prove to his own kids that he really could play this game "back in the day". Skillshow does a beautiful job, professional in every sense. Go to their web site and look at some of them; if you need a password, PM me.
Lynn...

Ask yourself this simple question.

Do I want a video of my son that looks to be "Oscar" made?

We have used their services and I would "highly recommend" Skillshow. These folks are as professional and courteous as you will find anywhere.

When we first learned that Perfect Game recommended their services, we knew it was a win-win situation.

The photographers know what and how to film a baseball player which will show the baseball vip's what they want to see in a player. The film clip is short but to the point and gets the job done superbly.

It showed our son running the 60, fielding ground balls from short and throwing to first base and then hitting during batting practice.
I totally agree with the above comments

A few years ago we received a call from Skillshow’s Tom Koerick Jr. Tom a former DI and professional player had started a new company and they wanted to get involved with us. To be honest, we were not overly excited because we didn’t believe video was very important in the recruiting or scouting process. Despite their high hopes and strong baseball background, we actually thought they would be out of business in short order.

After talking to Tom’s dad, Tom Koerick Sr. we came to realize that they shared the same ideals that proved to work for us. They had goals, but were not interested in quick returns. They wanted to be the very best at what they do and they realized it wouldn’t happen over night. They were honest baseball people who shared our passion for the game. This is what would get them past the “give it up” stage.

While we may not have believed the importance to college coaches and pro scouts, we did realize the video footage would be very valuable to us. Having nearly every PG player professionally filmed, gave us the ability to go back and see certain players after the event, study their mechanics, body control, swing, arm action, etc. Before partnering with Skillshow, we always had the notes, stats and charts, but once the event was over we had only notes, times, gun readings, etc and our memory of the player. We did take video footage ourselves, but it wasn’t good quality and for the most part it was fairly useless. The editing and organizing of the footage was next to impossible. If it were a three day event, it would take us nearly three days to see all the video. Since partnering with Skillshow, we have video footage of nearly every player at our events. This video was shot from the right angles and showed what we needed to see with very high quality. And we are able to see an individual players video right away, without searching for an hour or more.

We have seen lots of video over the years and we can state that Skillshow does the very best job of putting together high quality footage. We have received many calls from College Recruiters and Professional Scouts who agreed with our assessment. (Skillshow video is the best they’ve ever seen and very helpful). Skillshow continues to offer new services to young baseball players that have proven to be very valuable to scouts and recruiters. The new ACT program is one example of a very important useful tool for young players.

Perfect Game has had an exclusive agreement with Skillshow since they started in business and we continue to support them. Perfect Game does not profit (financially) from the Skillshow partnership, but it has become very valuable in our scouting efforts.

We not only have video footage of every player for scouting review purposes, we have video footage of most all the past PG players who have become first round selections and College All Americans. It’s a lot of fun, to go back and look at old video footage of high school players like Scott Kazmir, BJ and Justin Upton, Chris Lubanski, Lasting Milledge, Matt Bush, Delmon Young, Jeremy Bonderman, David Wright, Prince Fielder, Zach Greinke and many many more. In fact, Skillshow has video of most every one of the over 1,300 draft picks and 66 first round picks who attended PG events in the past three years. Skillshow has filmed thousands of other players at Perfect Game and WWBA events over the years. Many of these players will end up making a big name for themselves. Many will play in the Big Leagues. That old video footage, could prove entertaining and maybe very valuable to Skillshow someday.

In the years we have worked with Skillshow, we have received exactly “one” complaint about them. The complaint was based mostly on the fact that Skillshow showed a weak ground ball off the bat of the hitter among several swings. After viewing the video of the player (he was a very good hitter) we too thought that swing that resulting in the weak grounder, was one of the swings we would have picked. While the results were not good, the swing was beautiful, showing outstanding bat speed and great path to and through the ball with a good balance and nice finish. This was a MLB swing that would impress any good scout or recruiter. Anyway, every other person we’ve ever talked to who has used Skillshow’s services, raves about the quality of their product and the results.

Some may think, we promote Skillshow because of our exclusive partnership with them and for reasons of profit. The truth is we actually pay Skillshow to attend our events and provide us video footage of all the players for our own scouting purposes. We do not receive any income, let alone profit, from Skillshow video. So I feel very comfortable in saying “Skillshow is the very best at what they do” because it could be said we are by far their biggest customer. Besides that, they are great hard working people and we really like those guys!
I am a huge fan of video, and I video all the players that I have high interest in with my own camera every year. A scout can go to a game to see a hitter and many times that hitter does not get pitched to. If I can get one good swing on film, then I can go home and watch it 50 times and have a real good feel for his swing. If I don't then I have only seen a split second of a swing and writing a report on what you only saw for a split second is a good way to make costly mistakes.
Doug,

I know it's highly unlikely, but if you ever wish to see video of a certain player that pops up or maybe additional footage of someone you have already seen, feel free to give Tom Koerick (in Seattle) or us a call. Tom is a knowledgable guy with a ton of video and it's possible he might have what your looking for. Email me if you want his # - pgjerry@qwest.net

It is amazing the things you can see and break down with good video footage.
