I'm looking for any tips, advice, comments, etc from those who've used a Sling Box or any other such technology to tune into their son's games on the internet. All home games are televised over the air but only a select few are streamed.

Thanks in advance for your input!

"I like them french fried potaters." Spizzle we used one the 2006 season. It worked well. Any imperfectons in the broadcast are magnified on the output. The picture isn't as good and dependant on the quality of the output. We hooked it up to the TV to watch, which was neat.

It seemed like it was a pain getting the thing turned on and the wires to stay hooked up, so we didn't bother with it last year. Hardware is fine. Our management skills are not. Smile We actually went to a bunch of games instead.

Spizzle,

Slingbox is a tool to allow you to access your cable box that's hooked up to your tv at home from any computer, anywhere. How will this help you see your son's games?

Put the slingbox on the cable in Hawaii and he can watch what's on the TV in Hawaii, on his computer in NM. Don't feel bad. My wife explained it to me.

Who's cable box is he going to use in Hawaii? If his son is in a dorm I doubt he has a cable box.

Thanks Dads-
Yes son has a cable box. He and his roomies also have a nicer TV than I do, though I don't know if it's HD.

04, are you saying that the unit has to be turned on each time it's used, or does it just remain on? And do you know if more than one computer can access it at the same time? Son has 3 roomies, all BB players from CA. I'm gonna propose that the other dads chip in Big Grin.

The cable box or tv needs to be turned on and remain on the channel you want to watch. You control the cable box remotely, but someone can still change the channel locally also.

The SB we have is password activated and allows one user at a time. Each remote users need a SB to log onto. That may have changed since ours was acquired. There could be different tech stuff that allows multiple users that I'm not aware of.
Spizzle, if his roomies also play baseball then you could do it because nobody would be using the tv during games. Slingbox is good in that the only cost is the one time purchase. There is no monthly fee.

Your son should purchase the Slingbox in Hawaii and then you could get the info from him to download the Slingbox software and set it up on your PC.

Buy it for him and ship it to Hawaii. Stuff in Hawaii is expensive. One night around midnight I wanted to know if an item was carried at Best Buy so I called Best Buy in Honolulu. The price I was given was almost double the local price.
