Stop trying to read into everything. You will drive yourself crazy. I've been thought the journey with two kids and five sports. You're far from the first parent who doesn't see what the coach sees. There's also more going on that just in the scrimmage. Your son has it right. He has to work hard an earn it. Now relax. I hope you're not discussing all this negativity with your son. It can distract from his focus.

Every coach is differenti, there are no guidelines other than:
1- Have your son give 100% at all times
2- You never want to approach the coach over these issues
3- Enjoy every minute
It will work out in the end, be patient and play hard!
