Somedays things are just right. The hits fall, the extra bases are had and the runs cross the plate. And when I look out there and see that kid making plays and smiling yep he was smiling...it makes me forget all the lows this game can throw at you!!

I thinks it's more the fact that he's worked hard, and hasn't always gotten credit for it. Now he's getting his chance and making the most of it. Those speeches of "keep working, you'll get your chance".....they are finally coming true!!

Tomorrow, the bottom could fall out...but for today....the stars are aligned!!

Yes! When it all finally comes together, it's so satisfying! Our high school team is actually quite good this year. We've even been beating some of the Korean teams, and in the past this has NOT been the case. This is my first year coaching the guys, but I won't take any credit for getting them in the gym way back in September and really busting their humps and making them believe they ARE ballplayers, each and every one of them ! Wink
One of my absolutely all-time favorite games was when my daughter was 6 playing on a Little League 7-8 year old team. Kids pitched 7 pitches per batter, then the coach came in for the out, no matter the count. It was rare that we actually finished a game; there was a time limit of 2 hours.

In this particular game we played all six innings. Oh sure, there were runners in every inning. Oh sure, the outfielders were able to pick dandelions like always. The girls hit---but no balls between their legs and nothing over their heads. There were no errors at all. Bases were loaded a bunch of times, but the girls made the plays......It was one of the most exciting games I've ever witnessed----The score? 1-0. It was awesome!

we had the opportunity to listen to #2's game on the radio this weekend and heard the announcer talk about son as the kind of player who comes every day ready to play, always gives it his all, and describing how you can tell he just loves being on the field. "He's the kind of player who's a joy to watch". #2 is hitting lights out and making all the plays, but neither one compares to hearing a complete stranger talk about the sheer joy son exudes when he's on the diamond.

made me happy and sad at the same time...
Well folks...the weather is warming and it's still going well. Just thought a positive note might help someone out there.

We suffered at the beginning of the season..we thought the spot was ours. Turns out, it wasn't, yet. He worked hard all year and wasn't getting the pay off.

Finally got the start on varsity...5 games later he's 9 for 15, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 1 HR.

After the first start I asked him if coach was going to leave him there...his response was..."I'm not going to give him a choice"

And he hasn't!! Smile

Like I said, it could all change tomorrow, but for today and the last week....it's been all good!!
Well, I thought I'd brag a little with a follow up. While the season didn't end like we had planned, it was rewarding none the less.

1Bson made 2nd team all conference. Needless to say we are extremely proud of his efforts and hard work. It's nice to see it pay off and be acknowledged, not only by his coach, but the other 7 coaches in the conference.

Hard work never takes a day off!!
