I know your seasons are ending but IOWA hs baseball starts tomorrow. I have no idea how you go about blocking me but I plan to talk about it every day until August!
He pitches tomorrow.

Go for it. Hoping for a successful season for your son.
Most of all enjoy the ride!
We usually play 25 games, coach was tired of beating seeded low at state tourney so added every top 10 team in the state for a 44 game season. And of course none will travel to us so...
He is starting SS, bats 3rd and top pitcher. He is fine but I am nervous as a cat.

Cats only have 9 lives so use them wisely!
How late does it go? I'll be driving through Iowa in a couple of months, so....
Blocked.
Just kidding - have a great season.
State tourney is last 4 days of July.
Kind of sucks because Minnesota wanted tp place him in the Northwoods League but he owes his team.
and the MILB has kicked the out of the ballparks so not sure where yet.
Where are you coming from? JCG
This is great! It will give us more HS baseball to follow!
Trust me Paula. I can bore you to tears.

CA, Good Knight. Deets by PM if you want them. No reason to bore the entire board.
First HS game for our school tonight. We don't really know anyone playing now that son is three years out, but he is coming home from college to cheer them on so I'm excited!!! New coach, too, so that should make things interesting. Have fun Good Knight!!
IowaMom we are pretty excited. He pitches tonight against some travel team guys from the Hitters. He is at 94 now but we will see if they are strikes.
1st IOWA poll out.We start at #6.
Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason rankings CLASS 4A 1. Ankeny 2. Urbandale 3. Johnston 4. Waukee 5. Hempstead 6. Pleasant Valley 7. Dowling Catholic 8. Iowa City High 9. Cedar Falls 10. Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Won first game 7-1. He pitched 3 innings. No hits, no runs, no errors.
5 k's, 3 bb's. .333 BA. BAA .134
Not thrilled with the BB's but it is early.
Far be it from me to complain about a tight zone. But it really hurt the other team.
On to the #1 team in the state later this week.
Wake up Paula. I did warn you.
Way to go!! :-)
Indianola not ranked, but got an 8-1 win. There were some ugly, first-game-of-the-season moments, but looked pretty good. I'm sure what everyone will be talking about is all new uniforms!!! :-)
We also learned a lesson in strike zones. Got an umpire that is used to doing Big 10 games.
Good(and painful) for Seth to see what a D1 strike zone looks like vs HS. He adjusted but other team was unable.
Grew up in Waterloo until age 12. Grandparents lived in Hudson. Back in the 70's and 80's town closed up to watch the FB team. I think that they had a larger attendance than the 5a school my son attends here in Texas, but time always skews perspective, and yes I did walk uphill both ways.
Remember the youth baseball program during the summer for younger kids was "Tshirts" and when you got older you moved to "Sweatshirts".
Most fun was just putting your glove over your handle bar, bat over your shoulder, and getting your friends and "traveling" to an "opposing" elementary school for an afternoon/evening (until the streetlights came on, or until you heard mom yell).
Now we just fly to Florida
How much outdoor training is done in the Spring in IA?
We played a Spring PG league all Spring before HS season. Damn cold. I was worried for our guy. 45 degrees and windy, throwing 90's is a bad deal.
Do you play at Prospect Meadows?

Hopefully that link works…
IKETBD You bet. Nearly froze there. This is pic of scouts a few weeks ago.

LOL just wait till college.
Good thing about Minnesota is it is so damn cold that they have INDOOR baseball!
You folks in the region and in CO really make it hard for me to complain about the lousy Northeast Spring weather.
As promised..an update of the damn cold IOWA season.(37 degrees here this am.)
Pleasant Valley #6 finishes off the sweep of top-ranked Ankeny , 4-2 and 6-2.
Guy did not pitch (not did their ACE), but he did have 2 nice double plays to snuff out their side.

One of RipkenFanSon's favorite photos is the one below, on deck with the snow falling @Cornell.
Pitched last night 16 K's in 6 IP. 5-0
Fun times.

great pic, i recall one in 2019 we started at 4pm at 34 degrees and bit of wind, by the end it was mid 20's and steady wind. I don't think i could imagine worse.
Not only can I imagine worse but the ARMY sent me to Norway 500 miles North of the Arctic Circle. Actual damn reindeer and Laplanders.
But no baseball. Or pics.
SWEET!
IOWA HS state tournament for 4a is at Iowa Hawkeyes field.
Now to just get there.
Funny how my expectations change. Now when he pitches 6 innings with only 11 k's I complain.
Not outloud of course.

One of my best friends in life is an adrenaline junkie. Once while climbing a mountain in Tibet, the Sherpa that was guiding the climb told him, “Never have expectations. They only lead to disappointment.”
Yes I find if I am a pessimist I never get dissapointed.

I was also excited to note this morning that they will serve wine at Duane Banks Field. Probably not during state tournament, and others seemed to think that beer and wine at the football stadium was more important, but still exciting for baseball fans. Could keep me coming back even after Duncan is done playing!

Yeah, but that doesn’t have the same impact with no Sherpa in the story.
10-0 after taking apart the number 3 team.
Wish I had not complained above about cold weather. 95 last few days. Humid.
But 32 k's in 13 IP. 1.00 era.
BA .360. so far so good.
Yes, YOU'RE the one to blame for the weather!!!
Holy God!
Our coaches scheduled 7 games next week, including the states 7,8,10th ranked teams.
The weather is 95 degrees and hardest are away games.
Maybe we will get lucky and MLB combine will last longer and top pitcher will not make it back?
Bet u wish you had Summer baseball! We are 14-0 until next week.
Damn it. I forgot to add the sherpa.

But do you get to decide who you play at the Prange Classic? Have fun!!! And temps at the end of the week look like the 80s--a huge improvement!!!!
