I know your seasons are ending but IOWA hs baseball starts tomorrow. I have no idea how you go about blocking me but I plan to talk about it every day until August!
He pitches tomorrow.

Go for it. Hoping for a successful season for your son.
Most of all enjoy the ride!
We usually play 25 games, coach was tired of beating seeded low at state tourney so added every top 10 team in the state for a 44 game season. And of course none will travel to us so...
He is starting SS, bats 3rd and top pitcher. He is fine but I am nervous as a cat.

Cats only have 9 lives so use them wisely!
How late does it go? I'll be driving through Iowa in a couple of months, so....
Blocked.
Just kidding - have a great season.
State tourney is last 4 days of July.
Kind of sucks because Minnesota wanted tp place him in the Northwoods League but he owes his team.
and the MILB has kicked the out of the ballparks so not sure where yet.
Where are you coming from? JCG
This is great! It will give us more HS baseball to follow!
Trust me Paula. I can bore you to tears.

CA, Good Knight. Deets by PM if you want them. No reason to bore the entire board.
First HS game for our school tonight. We don't really know anyone playing now that son is three years out, but he is coming home from college to cheer them on so I'm excited!!! New coach, too, so that should make things interesting. Have fun Good Knight!!
IowaMom we are pretty excited. He pitches tonight against some travel team guys from the Hitters. He is at 94 now but we will see if they are strikes.
1st IOWA poll out.We start at #6.
Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason rankings CLASS 4A 1. Ankeny 2. Urbandale 3. Johnston 4. Waukee 5. Hempstead 6. Pleasant Valley 7. Dowling Catholic 8. Iowa City High 9. Cedar Falls 10. Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Won first game 7-1. He pitched 3 innings. No hits, no runs, no errors.
5 k's, 3 bb's. .333 BA. BAA .134
Not thrilled with the BB's but it is early.
Far be it from me to complain about a tight zone. But it really hurt the other team.
On to the #1 team in the state later this week.
Wake up Paula. I did warn you.
Way to go!! :-)
Indianola not ranked, but got an 8-1 win. There were some ugly, first-game-of-the-season moments, but looked pretty good. I'm sure what everyone will be talking about is all new uniforms!!! :-)
We also learned a lesson in strike zones. Got an umpire that is used to doing Big 10 games.
Good(and painful) for Seth to see what a D1 strike zone looks like vs HS. He adjusted but other team was unable.
Grew up in Waterloo until age 12. Grandparents lived in Hudson. Back in the 70's and 80's town closed up to watch the FB team. I think that they had a larger attendance than the 5a school my son attends here in Texas, but time always skews perspective, and yes I did walk uphill both ways.
Remember the youth baseball program during the summer for younger kids was "Tshirts" and when you got older you moved to "Sweatshirts".
Most fun was just putting your glove over your handle bar, bat over your shoulder, and getting your friends and "traveling" to an "opposing" elementary school for an afternoon/evening (until the streetlights came on, or until you heard mom yell).
Now we just fly to Florida
How much outdoor training is done in the Spring in IA?
We played a Spring PG league all Spring before HS season. Damn cold. I was worried for our guy. 45 degrees and windy, throwing 90's is a bad deal.
Do you play at Prospect Meadows?

Hopefully that link works…
IKETBD You bet. Nearly froze there. This is pic of scouts a few weeks ago.

LOL just wait till college.
Good thing about Minnesota is it is so damn cold that they have INDOOR baseball!
You folks in the region and in CO really make it hard for me to complain about the lousy Northeast Spring weather.
As promised..an update of the damn cold IOWA season.(37 degrees here this am.)
Pleasant Valley #6 finishes off the sweep of top-ranked Ankeny , 4-2 and 6-2.
Guy did not pitch (not did their ACE), but he did have 2 nice double plays to snuff out their side.

One of RipkenFanSon's favorite photos is the one below, on deck with the snow falling @Cornell.
Pitched last night 16 K's in 6 IP. 5-0
Fun times.

great pic, i recall one in 2019 we started at 4pm at 34 degrees and bit of wind, by the end it was mid 20's and steady wind. I don't think i could imagine worse.
Not only can I imagine worse but the ARMY sent me to Norway 500 miles North of the Arctic Circle. Actual damn reindeer and Laplanders.
But no baseball. Or pics.
SWEET!
IOWA HS state tournament for 4a is at Iowa Hawkeyes field.
Now to just get there.
Funny how my expectations change. Now when he pitches 6 innings with only 11 k's I complain.
Not outloud of course.

One of my best friends in life is an adrenaline junkie. Once while climbing a mountain in Tibet, the Sherpa that was guiding the climb told him, “Never have expectations. They only lead to disappointment.”
Yes I find if I am a pessimist I never get dissapointed.

I was also excited to note this morning that they will serve wine at Duane Banks Field. Probably not during state tournament, and others seemed to think that beer and wine at the football stadium was more important, but still exciting for baseball fans. Could keep me coming back even after Duncan is done playing!
@Good Knight posted:Yes I find if I am a pessimist I never get dissapointed.
Yeah, but that doesn’t have the same impact with no Sherpa in the story.
10-0 after taking apart the number 3 team.
Wish I had not complained above about cold weather. 95 last few days. Humid.
But 32 k's in 13 IP. 1.00 era.
BA .360. so far so good.
Yes, YOU'RE the one to blame for the weather!!!
Holy God!
Our coaches scheduled 7 games next week, including the states 7,8,10th ranked teams.
The weather is 95 degrees and hardest are away games.
Maybe we will get lucky and MLB combine will last longer and top pitcher will not make it back?
Bet u wish you had Summer baseball! We are 14-0 until next week.
Damn it. I forgot to add the sherpa.

But do you get to decide who you play at the Prange Classic? Have fun!!! And temps at the end of the week look like the 80s--a huge improvement!!!!
We have Waukee, Urbandale, and Centennial! 2 best pitchers in state? We will see.
16-0 but hardest part of week to go!
Good luck!
Thank u Paula. We are going to need it.
James excited for the draft?
A lot up in the air at this point still. Could just as easily end up on campus.
Two big W's in Des Moines with an assist from Mother Nature. Game called early as we hustled out.
Holy cow. Did that thing touch down?
No but I did not either as I high tailed it.
18-2 now at the mid season mark.
Seth is doing well.
My men. Uncanny resemblance don't you think!
@Good Knight posted:My men. Uncanny resemblance don't you think!
Careful, you will get cancelled for making a racist comment by a person who sees systemic racism everywhere they look.
Even ten years ago I referred to my sons two best friends as my adopted kids. Chances are find one and you found the other two. They were high school baseball teammates. Two went on to play college ball. The other played college football. Someone called me racist for the comment because one “adopted” kid was Muslim (father from Middle East) and the other black.
Playing baseball together since LL and being bright kids connected them.
Love seeing both their smiles! Little brother still playing football?
Yes Big Bubba" plays QB and pitches in 7th grade.
And Seth's biggest cheerleader.
Could get ugly at the PV vs Johnston game though.
3-0 at Prange tourney this weekend! 2 shutouts against ranked teams.
Hard to have enough pitching in a 7 game week!
Team is 23 and 2 now, with another 7 game week next week! Included is states number 1 team Johnston.
Seth is doing well:
era .094
ip 37.5
k's 69
And a new record...hit 3 batters last night.
No Sherpa and no tornado!
PS Johnston game could get dicey as "Big Bubba" goes to Johnston! (as seen in photos above).
Johnston game tonight and Seth pitches!
We are state #1 and they are 2. Going to their place.
26-2 for season with a week to go. still have 4 games against top 10 teams left!
No Sherpa. No tornado. But a hell of a lot of fun baseball.
Draft this weekend so watching for James! and Seths Mn roommate.
We got em. Beat state champs 2-1!
At their place. On to SE Polk tomorrow.
Don't complain, it's like that everyday in FL. With baseball being played. Son says it's HOT. I left out the word he used before that.
Good luck! Enjoy!
Congrats!! Good luck!
Best of luck as your son's team marches on.
29-2!
On to play SE Polk this am and hs21pitchersdad son.
29-3 today.
SE Polk took us down with a LL hidden ball trick 4-5.
Next up is number 7 Dubuque Hempstead leading into substate on Friday.
Today glued to MLB draft..

Which trick? They must have executed it well.
Not sure I can explain it right. We had a guy on 3rd. Last out of game at bat. Their coach comes out to argue with blue. Someone slips 3rd baseman the ball. Pitcher walked onto the mound.
Blue calls balk and tells out runner on third to go home. 5-5 we think.
The 3rd baseman tags our guy and their coach convinces blue that it was not a balk because there was a dead ball. Instead of a tied game we lose 4-5.
Hard to tell it from score app.

That's not baseball. Sorry.
If the pitcher took the mound without the ball it’s a balk unless the umpire had not put the ball back in play in which case the runner at 3rd could not be tagged out. What a joke……
I’m with you Lousy and 22. Bush league IMHO.
Well it is what it is. 29-3 .
Four games left before substate.
We have already beaten almost all top 10. But in HS baseball you never know.
Sadder even was the day before. We beat the state champions at their place and next day all utube and all vids were taken down. What the hell!
Sorry to read it end that way. Speaks volume of a coach's character. I am sure the moral victory is of minimal consolation, still it was a great season
Sure like to see them again at state.

I think they pulled something similar back when my son was playing them. We lived in that area. Moved before the kids entered school. Sorry about that.

Not counting on it, been burned too often, but we'll see. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Beat Hempstead 4-3 in 13 innings. IOWA coach was there trying to sell Kellen Strohmeyer after he decommitted from NC.
Seths roommate at Minnesota is going to the MLB as is his friend Noah Miller at number 36!
Big day.
7-2 to beat number 6 Hempstead for a sweep.
Our team after the regular season is: 31-4
Of all 4-a teams in the state we are:
No 2 in era at 2.40
No 2 in saves at 10
No 1 in strikeout at 306
No 1 in fielding % at .966
No 2 in batting strikeout at 147
No 3 in hits allowed at 196
No 1 in runs allowed at 94
No 2 in earned runs at 85
No 4 in walks allowed at 116
No 2 in whip at 1.26
No 1 in errors at 35
Probably need to work on those walks allowed.
Substate starts tonight!!
Then can schedule our evaluation with Barb.
Good luck tonight! We have East and then things get rougher. We'll see.
We have Cedar Rapids Jefferson and then a bye. Yours does look harder.
You get Johnston soon.
@Good Knight posted:We have Cedar Rapids Jefferson and then a bye. Yours does look harder.

Yea, that's usually our downfall. Or someone like them. Sigh.
Last time Seth pitches at his HS tonight. Finals of substate. BAA .196, er 6 over 9 games, 80 k's in 46 ip., era of .91. BA .354. Has been a good year.
Iowamom23 gets to play the defending state champs to get to state. Good luck!
Two hit shutout. 4-0. On to state.
Wahoo!! @Iowamom23 I hope it went well for you guys as well.
Sorry but Iowamom23 lost to last years state champs.
Seth will throw his last HS game next Thursday at IOWA Hawkeyes field!
He just loves it when I do the "numbers" on his performance: this year vs last season:
BAA down 12%
Hits down 16%
Runs down 68%
ER down 72%
BB same
K's same
ERA down 72% from 2.84 to 0.79
WHIP 1.25 to 1.16
BA .365
Told him looks like the defense did a hell of a job for him!
One game left for him to pitch.
So seeded 1st at state next Thursday. The can't miss game is 5pm game of Ankeny vs Waukee.
Both D1 pitchers over 95 mph! Fun as hell.
Iowa mom23 you are invited anyway.
Congrats Good Knight to you and your whole family! Your Grandson has had an amazing year and I'm looking forward to watching him and many of the other IA '21's continue to compete in college (including Iowamom23's son). I'm biased but this is the deepest and most talented class to come out of Iowa for quite some time. Good look to all who will be battling in Iowa City. Enjoy the ride. The state tourney will be must watch TV in my house.
btw - I liked how you measured your g-son's % of improvement in various areas. I did the same for my son and it's a great way to reflect on the various ways they improved (as well as identify weaknesses) from year to year.

I'll be spending next week sweating my way through our county fair. Be missing a lot of baseball the next couple of weeks.
I feel sorry for everyone not living in IOWA today.
We are making jam from out blackberry bush, eating sweet corn, and enjoying our fresh grown tomatoes on BLT's. All while watching the state tournament on tv.
For anyone wanting to watch: Seth throws his last hs game 11 am Thursday and u can see it here.

Thanks for the link. I will watch if I can. Hope it goes well!
I am nervous as a cat. Thanks
@Good Knight posted:I am nervous as a cat. Thanks
Seth is prepared for this moment. He has been working to get to this point for a long time. It’s just another of many big games he will pitch before he is done playing. Try to enjoy the experience.
Have fun today!!!
Checking to see if anyone knows this guy???:
Congrats and good luck tomorrow.
Thanks Paula. We are just about sick.It was 90 and 85% humidity.
But my guy looked great.
Supposed to be cooler tomorrow. Hope it feels better. Spent the day watching sheep and goats show at the fair. Can't decide who has it worse — the animals or the kids or the adults trying to get the kids and the animals to look cute for pictures.
Pitched his last game and now moves to SS for final 2 games (I hope)
For the season:
BAA down 16%
Hits down 19%
Runs down 68%
ER down 72%
BB down 4%
K's same
ERA down 72% from 2.84 to 0.81 New school record!
WHIP 1.25 to 1.08
BA .373
Pitched 60 innings with 99 K's
temp below 80 today so funs times !
Funny the way stats work. He was not even conference player of the year because he only threw in big non conference games. His closer won it with 9 saves.
