Hickory--4--3--4--0--1--0--1--13-13--5
O Smith--1--0--0--3--0--1--0---5--6--4

WP: Chandler (1-0) LP: Tarrats (0-1)

HR: H-McCloud, H-Leach

For H - Took advantage of multiple Smith physical and mental errors early & made each hurt with some great clutch hitting. Middle of the order delivered with 9 hits coming from the 2-5 batters in the lineup. T.J. Lighton got back on the mound to close the game...looked rusty but good... good to see him recovering. #24 Carter made a great diving catch at 3B to save a run and stop a rally in the 4th inning.

Leach - 2-4, HR, 2 Runs, 4 RBI
Best - 3-5 (2 on blown bunt coverages), 3 Runs, RBI
Campbell - 2-4, triple, 3 Runs, RBI
Blake - 2-5, 3 RBI
McCloud - 2-run HR

For OS - Again put themselves in a huge hole early with walks & errors leading to run-scoring hits. The game started with a mis-played ball in center due to losing the ball in the sun followed by a blown bunt coverage which led to the 4-run first inning. Again the team played better after the first 3 frames. Score was Smith 4 - Hickory 2 over the last 4 1/2 innings. Stephen Lorkiewicz had a great day at the plate and Jarrett McNeil ('12) kept the Tigers in it, pitching great over the last 4.1 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run.

Lorkiewicz ('12) - 2-2, 2 BB, 3 Runs, RBI, SB
Applin ('11) - 2-run Double, SB
Brock ('11) - 1-3, RBI

The momentum swung back and forth several times in the NR/WB game last night. The two pivotal moments in last nights game IMO happened in the 4th and 5th innings. After Thompson hit a two run HR in the top half of the 3rd to tie the game and Johnsonbaugh retired the side in order in the bottom of the 3rd to swing momentum to WB, Tyler Brown was able to get through the top of the 4th in just 4 pitches to 4 batters.

The second and biggest momentum swing of the game was in the 5th inning. After loading the bases with 1 out, WB hit into an inning ending ground ball double play 3rd to home to 1st. In the bottom half of the 5th, NR had bases loaded with no outs after a hit batter and back to back walks. It appeared WB was going to grab momentum back after recording back to back outs, a ground ball and a strikeout, and then Travis Johnson took a 1-1 pitch over the right centerfield fence giving NR a 10-5 lead.

I had WB with 8 runs on 12 hits and NR with 10 runs on 7 hits. Two stats that hurt WB were 6 BB to NR 4 BB and stranding 7 runners to NR stranding just 1. It was an exciting ballgame with many momentum shifts and had a large turnout.
