speed gun differences

Modern Jugs and Stalkers read about the same. This subject has been discussed many times here over the years. Look up "stalker" in the "find" feature.

Major league and D-1 college scouts tend to use Stalkers. Stalker is considered the gold standard. HSs and smaller colleges often use Jugs which are a bit cheaper and lighter weight,

Stalkers have traditionally read 1 to 2 mph slower than Jugs. The most recent Stalkers are supposed to read about the same as Jugs. There isn't a 3 to 5 mph difference.

How about this, then: at the Blue Gray @ Wm + Mary 2 weeks ago, I stood behind the guns, waiting for Junior's turn. On one pitch I saw 88, 90, 91 all on JUGS guns, same pitch, all from guys sitting within 5-6 feet of each other, behind the catcher.

Any explanation for this phenomenon?

JUGs was anywhwere from 1-5 faster than stalker gun, sometimes the same as Stalker, but rarely

Angle plays a minor role. Sampling rate plays a bigger role. (guns send out radar pulses that may pick up a pitch right out of the hand or 10 feet out) Guns may deteriorate with age. Software varies with vintage. Guns may be less than perfectly linear. That is, a gun may be on the mark at 70 mph, but off at 90 mph)

I think Jugs are only rated at an accuracy of 1 mph plus/minus.

That's actually pretty close to Jug's claimed accuracy if the pitch was a bit under 90

BTW, rounding also plays a role. Pitch at 90.5 may read 90 or 91 even on a lab test radar (if there's such a thing).
