Julie: Ask him if he ever played baseball at Soden's Grove. It's a beautiful little ballpark in his hometown.
I love the sport where the defense "has the ball"...
Do real sports get called off due to rain?quote:Originally posted by TRhit:
With so many being bored with the snow/rain/cold situation this should spark some activity---Do REAL sports get delayed by pot holes during the competition? I don't think so !!1
I know NASCAR is tough, but I still don't think I'd consider it a sport. But then I won't call cheerleading a sport either...
I kind of like Hemingway's take on sports. He felt there are only three. Mountain climbing, bull fighting and auto racing. Everything else is a game...
Buzkashi
NASCAR. Is that where they drive in circles while I change the channel?
I love the interviews. "My BoJangles STP Mobil One Goodyear Pontiac was a little loose in turn 1 but then the boys in the Pit got some wedge going and it got real tight going in and came out loose but Jimmy Bob made a great decision to change some rubber on the outside and the BoJangles STP Mobil One Goodyear Pontiac found the right groove for me."
I enjoy the last 25-30 laps of Nascar.
After the final pothole delay yesterday they had 30 or so laps to go and to me it was very exciting, especially the finish when Dale Earnhardt Jr jumped out and tried to steal the show - he's an excellent driver....
That's the only part of the race I watched.
It's definitely not a sport in the sense that most want to try and compare it to football, baseball or basketball. Too many mechanical components involved and that's why it's referred to as a Motor Sport.

Coach May you kill me!
TR,
You wanna stir it up?
Talk about a game that is not a sport...try GOLF...
"Sssshhhhhh! Everybody be quite and he needs to concentrate while trying to hit a ball that is not moving."
...LOL!!!!!!
Sure, it takes some athletic skill to hit a golf ball hundreds of yards, but what's so sporting about golf? You can have just as much excitement playing a monopoly game...and it will be just as competitive...but, golf is certainly not a sport...

Coach Waltrip,
Golf takes more skill than, say, driving around the parking lot in a circle looking for a spot at the course...
I bet you're in great shape moving the board pieces around in the basement and that the fresh air you're breathing next to the furnace has your skin a beautiful shade of gray

NASCAR is a sport, not one I follow closely. Then again, I don't follow rhythmic gymnastics or synchronized swimming either.
My inlaws knew everything about it, and were devastated when Dale Earnhart died. In fact, we called and checked up on them that evening, and drove up to them a few days later! Seriously, they were that upset.
imo, the best thing about this year's Daytona were the announcers. Think they wanted Jr to win?

BBd,
Sorry to disappoint you...No, I don't have a furnace...or a basement...I play monopoly sitting in my backyard in my shorts and tee-shirt while enjoying the 78 degree warmth and fresh air...

I wish you many years of happiness and sunshine while you watch NASCAR events and play Monopoly in your shorts.
Sir, I would like you to know I have big shorts, but not quite that big...you're just jealous since it's cold and snowing in NJ...
Hey, maybe I'll head down to the course and a catch a quick 9 holes of a game that is not a sport...in my shorts...and tee-shirt...and sun block...with a cold beer
Stay warm

I'm looking out my window here and wishing I could buy the beer for you.
Take a flight to AZ and I'll buy you a beer, catch a spring training game (2 more weeks, can't wait), play nine and watch a high school game...oh, I almost forgot, bring your sun block!
Sounds like a great day. I will think about it as I pick axe the ice from my driveway.

Bummer...but, we have the flip side of that coin...in the summertime a guy risks getting sunstroke taking a stroll outside to the mailbox...I always take a couple gallons of water with me just in case...
