First of all son is primary posistion is not a pitcher. He is being asked to pitch this year. I will say though he likes to pitch. We have no illusions that he will pitch at the next level. He won't. He has had no formal instruction. Simply looking for any advice that might help him improve so he can do the best he can for the team. Thanks.

He's not that bad - he's got a nice frame / body for a baseball player. Let me guess and say he's a third baseman.

The two biggest things I see on this one pitch is that when he brings his left leg up to the balance position he swings it instead of lifts it. This could create some balance problems which will throw him off if he can't get more efficient with his movements. Plus it wastes energy and might tire him out more since he isn't a pitcher.

The second thing is he throws slightly in an upward position. He gets great extension from the mound but watch how he doesn't get through the pitch and finish low enough.
First I want to say that if he is a position player and hasn't ever pitched he looks pretty good to me!! There are a few things I think he could do that would help him:

1. He needs to keep his hips closed longer. He opens his front side too soon, which is a very common error for youth pitchers. Keep his lead knee pointing towards the third base side as long as he can and then open the hips and the last second.

2. Try to get in a more "sitting" position(athletic position through the delivery. He looks to upright, therefor he can't explode to the plate.

3. He seems to short arm the ball a little. Make sure he gets that throwing arm back at foot plant so he has more leverage coming home.

4. He needs to drive his chest into his left(lead arm) at the finish of his delivery for balance.
