Hi Lefty, Although it was just one swing, which is not necessarily the same swing as you use all the time, what jumps out at me the most is: when your front foot comes down, your hands are not back towards the catcher enough, and then you start with your hands. I would like to see you get a little more reach back with your hands and then start the swing with hip rotation instead of your hands. If you start with the hips, the hands will follow and you will stay inside the ball better and have a little better swing path into the ball. You should also get a little more power too.
There is more, but the angle of the camera and with you only taking one swing, the hands back and using better and sooner hip rotation should help you out.
Thanks BB... I know that my coach has told me about the hips- But; will opening the hips early allow me to hit the ball opposite way- it seems that it would pull me inside and not allow me to get much power on the outside.
You'll be able to hit the outside pitch the other way just fine if you allow the ball to get deeper in the zone before you swing. What I mean by that is to not try and hit the outside pitch out in front of you. Allow the ball to travel deeper (to the catcher) before swinging so hit the ball later.
CubanLefty, If your hands go at the same time as your hips you will have problems with the outside pitch. However, if your hips start earlier and your hands stay back you'll be fine and will probably hit the outside pitch harder than you do now. Bbscout has given you good advice.
