Dazed it does not sound like a dumb question to me. I actually was wondering the same this but never asked. I thought it would be acceptable to ask where you stand in a program to weigh all your options. I seems that it is also in the best interest of the coach to know what is expected. Hope you get a few great answers that we can all benefit from.

Does son call one coach A and say hey I've been excepted and I'm still interested but Coach B and C see me as this player. How do I fit in your program?

I don't want him to tick any of them off but would like to know where he stands.

dont play coach A off with coach b and c...ask coach A directly where he sees your son in his program and why.
I think it is absolutley a requirement to ask directly how you fit into the program. In addition, I would ask how many players will be recruited at your position and when (freshmen, sophomore, etc...) you would be projected to get playing time/starting position if you did all the things you should be doing and won the job.

Although, I probably would not offer comments about other schools (coaches b anc c in your example) unless it was specifically requested. Your son is going to spend 4 years at this schools with this coaching staff, and possibly spend many thousands of hours and dollars. There are many quesitons I would ask, and very few that are off limits as it pertains to your son. It is real important to get a feel for the program, as we learned each won is uniquely different. Good luck.

PS....This interview with Sacred Heart (D1) head coach Wayne Mazzoni was posted in another thread by BasballmomandCEP. It is a very, very good reference. I listened to it yesterday in the car. There are some good questions asked in the second recorded pod cast that will sound very familiar. I listened because I may be going through this process again.
