I made the Karns/Central game this afternoon before the rain came and enjoyed seeing the Beavers and took in the new improvements to the field and dugouts. The opponents will appreciate the improved view from the stands and the players will like the infield and dugouts.
The Beavers welcomed back their 2004 ex-coach (Danny Sharp) now on the Central staff, with some ill-advised base running and a lack of timely hitting that led to the Central 7-6 win over the Beavers.
Another twist to the game was the umpiring of the gray-mullet. Yes, he was back! Last year the gray-mullet threw out the entire Beaver student section after the students were encouraged by Coach Sharp to keep cheering for the Beavers after some questionable calls by the gray-mullet. Some have said that this event had an effect on Coach Sharp's coaching contract not being renewed. Today the gray-mullet threw out a Central player for a hard tag on a Karns baserunner caught in a rundown. The gray-mullet didn't stop with the player, seems he also threw out a Central parent (not sure if it was the tossed players parent). Seems the gray-mullet must have known that Coach Sharp was now on the Central staff. The Knox County sheriff office was nice enough to send two patrol cars to make sure the parent left the grounds.
The gray-mullet now has another game in which he has brought the attention away from the game of baseball and onto his fine umpiring skills.
All and all another fine afternoon of high school baseball.
