Agree it is not on their website (yet?) but it is in today's paper.

Am sure Jami took full advantage and consideration of the web's coverage of the pre season contests and opinions.
Here's the list:
1) Great Bridge
2) Kellam
3) Nansemond River
4) Cape Henry
5) Salem
6) Western Branch
7) Greenbrier Christian
8) Maury
9) First Colonial
10) Cox

For the sake of argument...I am not convinced that Kellam is better than the Nansemond River team.

I stand by my statement. Most of the information in the Pilot is what the coaches call in. The reporting on the Peninsula is much more thorough. It really doesn't take much eFfort to know Great Bridge and Nansemond River were in the Eastern Region final.

In a one game deal will N. River have an answer for Conner Jones? South County didn't last year after ringing up everyone they played everywhere.

Mary lost to a weak Kecoughtan team yesterday.

I guess all that really matters is that they proved themselves by being the team that played Great Bridge in the Regional finals last year.

Churchland sure does have to prove ALOT for The Pilot to ever put them on any list. We will see how the team progresses this year after loosing so many seniors last year. However just to state a fact they beat #7 Greenbrier Christian 6-5 on March 8th, 2012.
After last year I do not have high hopes they will be moved up very fast if they keep winning. This is after watching how long it took them to get moved up the list little by little last year, win after win after win.
I guess all that really matters is that they proved themselves by being the team that played Great Bridge in the Regional finals last year.

Churchland didn't play Great Bridge or reach the Regional final last year.

My recollection is that Churchland was beaten by Nansemond River in an Eastern Regional semi-final and it was Nansemond River which advanced to the final to play Great Bridge in an all-SED Regional final.

Inspiring coverage of yesterday's action. Full details of the Maury game and nothing else. Pretty sad.

And somehow Nansemond River lost to Salem while simultaneously beating Deep Creek.

The Pilot has Kellam ranked number one in the Tidewater for the second straight week and Western Branch at number two. Followed by NR/ Hickory and then GB
I have not seen the bracket but it looks like Kellam against the SED in the championship. That will be a game to watch as any one of those teams are capable of winning.

Why is Maury still on this list? They may be the best of the Eastern but the Eastern is down even for them this year.

There it is....spot on. This is why the media polls are suspect. I wonder what a coaches poll would show?

A tip of the cap to those who have uncovered the insideous Maury - Va. Pilot - ODU conspiracy to keep Maury ranked in the prestigious no. 10 spot in the high school baseball poll.
It is worth noting some additional corroborating evidence of the conspiracy. Commodore Maury was a ship's "Pilot", the newspaper is named the "Pilot" and ODU has recently launched several "pilot" programs. Also, Maury's nickname the "Commodores" has 10 letters - the exact number of Maury's poll rank. Coincidence? I think not.

I know this would never happen but I think it would be great if the Beach and SED split into divisions. They could go 2X against division oppoenents and once against Conference non division opponents.
That would free up spots in the schedule for inter conference games between the Beach, SED and Eastern districts during the regular season.

I would like to see the Eastern Region tournament expanded to 12 teams. The winners of each district would receive a bye, and the remaining eight would have 2 vs. 3 matchups as a "play-in". Its only one extra game for those trying to get into the final eight, and none for those who win their district.
As it is now, and specifically to the SED...every year there are one or two clubs that would pound other competition, but can't get out of the district.
The Northern Region, I think it is, has a LARGE playoff contingent. I can't recall the number of teams that get in, but it's sizeable. I remember seeing the bracket last year. On one hand, its one more opportunity for a very good team to lose a game, but on the other, it rewards others with the chance to compete. It is certainly not watered down.

On the other hand, what I would like to see, maybe in addition, is best 2 out of 3 or maybe even pool play, to reduce the chances of the good team going home because of one game. Even when the colleges get to the Super Regional, they use a 2 out of 3 method.
