What would they have done if they saw you and I go at years back--nothing but opinions and personal beliefs--and today I consider you to be one on my good friends from this site--nothing we ever said between us was ever taken personal-- now everything you post gets twisted and taken personal.

TR...I agree.

Gosh...This is all about baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and Nissan.

I learned long ago not to try and jump into the computer to hit someone.

Listen and learn...or post and learn...or watch and learn.
I will still never forget the PM I got from Beenthere.

I had gotten into an argument with someone here on the web.
It got so bad - I said I was leaving the site.
(As if anyone cared - LOL)

So I get a PM from Beenthere - and basically it says:

Are you a moron or what? You are leaving the site because you received some bad feedback on the internet?

That type of honesty was not only refreshing - but it opened my eyes to the whole experience.

I read his post a few times - and had to admit - yup - moronic reaction to cyber bytes from people I dont even know.

Gave me a whole new look on the thing.
From the owner of this website:

Fungo,

Thanks for once again starting a very thoughtful and thought-provoking thread. I always appreciate your input and really admire your way of putting some very difficult subjects into words.

I locked the "thread gone bad" that you are referring to earlier today. Why did I lock it? I felt that several of the posts there were offensive to the purposes and rules of this site, and did not want to allow that discussion to continue. But I felt that it was fair to leave the contents available for concerned members to read and see what the problem was.

To those who expressed concerns above about influence, free passes, money, etc:

Some of you already know that I have made serious efforts to get some members to "clean up their acts" since I took over the site. Some of those members have "reformed", some have gone away (either voluntarily or by being suspended), and a few have been more resistant to change. In a very few cases, I have been more lenient with a member because of longevity and seniority. In real life I was always brought up to respect my elders, and in the virtual community we have here, I feel it is proper to offer some deference to members who have been here longer than the approx. 4 years I've been around, AND to those who have much more baseball experience and knowledge than I do. But there have not really been any free passes. I have publicly scolded an Old Timer or two when it seemed a last resort, and I have deleted posts by some who were surprised by that action.

Concerning money:

I have not accepted any. I have paid approximately $1,000.00 out of my pocket for the expenses of this site since taking over on June 1, and I have not yet accepted a private contribution from a member, or any advertising or sponsorship money. A few members have asked if they could contribute, but I preferred to put that on hold for a while after taking over. One organization, Perfect Game, asked if they could contribute to help with my expenses for the site, but I know that they have been financial supporters of Bob in the past and I asked them to wait and not make a contribution until the next time they might have done that under the "old management". They have generously made it clear that they are anxious to assist in the future. To date, I have not accepted a single dollar from any individual or organization, and money is not a factor in any administrative decisions I have made.

That being said, I appreciate the concerns and issues expressed in this thread, and I agree that some problems remain to be solved here within the forum membership.

Julie
Julie,

You owe no explanation to anyone.

IMO - It is disgraceful that anyone would imply anything about money - the way that TXDAD did.

The next time he posts something like that - you should just wipe it out. It is pure garbage.
And if he doesnt like it - he can go somewhere else.

It will save us all the pain of having to read his garbage - and it will save you the time of having to respond to defend the great things you do for all of us.

That is the truth.

And we all should ban together to get you some money as well. You shouldnt have to pay a dime to do this IMO. Or put up with TXDad's **** innuendo.

I told another poster once that I thought this site was like a big family. You've got the mom (yes, reference to MNMom), a big brother that gets too irritable sometimes but is really all heart, the little sister that likes to be liked by everyone, the crazy uncle Joe who makes everyone laugh, Grandpa who is full of life experiences and wisdom, etc. People do have bad days, people do take others for granted from time to time, (just like the rest of our lives) but all said and done, I know that there are very few people on here that I wouldn't miss if I never got to hear their thoughts again or that I can't say something nice about or that I wouldn't be comfortable asking advice or information from. Bickering and all - many great folks from many different walks of life that have at least one thing in common. clap
Bullwinkle:

You best keep your emotions in check. If everytime you get choked up and your response is to let loose of the methane I'm afraid there aren't enough Accords in Kyoto to save our precious planet. How's that Roberta Flack song go? Something like 'killing me harshly with his stink'. Eek

Looking forward to a winter with the moose!

GO WHITE SOX!!!
We'll end this thread with that humor. Smile
When I started this thread I knew this thread would become an issue and not a solution .... At least not today. TXdad06, I do apologize for using your comments as an example and I hope you accept my apology. My intent is not to push anyone’s buttons but to possibly explain how these things can happen on a public forum. The HSBBW does NOT have parameters as many believe. The HSBBW is a product of ALL our thoughts and opinions combined. It becomes what we want it to become. It changes as we change. Do the old timers control the direction? Not really. Sure there are people that can close threads and delete threads but the real direction is controlled by that quiet voice in the background asking a question or by someone giving their honest opinion. I would venture to say the newer posters bring more to the table and start more topics than people like myself. Let’s take the HSBBW for what it is .... With the understanding of what it can become with just a one careless post.
Thanks,
Fungo
