It's here... final few hours.

My Tribe made a big move.  I've got mixed feelings.  It was best long-term since they weren't going to pay Bauer next year anyway.  They certainly filled the one big hole they had and is so hard to find - RH pop.  Unfortunately, they are also suddenly vulnerable with the rotation as far as any chance of a deep run this year.  With Carrasco out indefinitely, they now need either a Kluber get-healthy and return-to-form or a Salazar get-hot-quick, both of which are longshots to varying degrees for this year.

I'd really like to see them shock everyone and pick up Madbum... perfect rental, numbers down a bit this year but velo and performance coming back as of late, proven playoff and series winner, and, with the other moves made, would thrust the team into the conversation with the favorites and fill seats.  They have plenty of chips in the farm system to where giving up a strong prospect or two won't kill them.  Clevenger, Bieber and Madbum could be plenty formidable with Kluber, Plesac and Salazar as candidates for the other playoff rotation spot.

I hated for my Friars to lose the Franimal but I get it. Loaded in the OF and two slugging RH hitters in the lineup is not where the need is. Further indication to me that the Padres front office has packed it in for the year and is looking to 2020. On the Tribe's side, it looks like they may have gotten the best end of this deal but only time will tell. Reyes is likely to make an outstanding DH.

I'm following 2 NL teams right now, the Mets and the Giants.  A bit of a nothingburger today with both clubs supposedly selling off starting pitching to contenders, but both electing not to in the end.

Both seem to think they are still in it, though the experts say their chances are thin at best.

I do like the Mets pickup of Stroman.  With their starting pitching, if only it was the  beginning of the season they would look real good right now!

* edit to say I may have spoken too soon. SFG apparently did something with the Reds.

* edit to say, heck sounds like two more trades as well, also holy crap, I thought the Astros had struck out but getting Greinke is huge!

Wow, the Astros are going ALL IN NOW, committing lots of $ and giving up lots of top prospects.  Greinke is almost 36... not likely to be a good investment long term.  Verlander is also 36.  The focus just became very much this year and next.

AZ kicked in $24m. Makes him roughly a $21m salary load for Astros  for 2020 and 2021. Ain’t no thing.

All good prospects. Corbin had TJS couple weeks ago. Seth Beer maybe, but at best a similar player as Yordan Alvarez. At best. Rojas good utility prospect, not a special bat. Baustakis good player so far.

Aaron Sanchez still throws as hard with stuff as 2016 15-2 season, something just messed up. Joe Biagilini (sp) will get work right away. Derek Fisher was the prospect there, avg MLB guy at best. Tony Kemp dfa’d last friday, got Astros their starting catcher from last year back to split time with Chorinos. He had no backup and was wearing down.

Still got Tucker and Whitley as top 20 mlb prospects.

Red Sox Nation - Get the tar and feathers ready if we don't get the Wildcard.

Yeah - on the one hand I'm disappointed, on the other the farm system needs some time to rebuild.  "As is" they should be solid contenders for the wild card and then have a puncher's chance.

I guarantee the AL Champion will not come out of the East this year.  The Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays did nothing to improve their teams short term or long term.

The Astros went all in on this year.   The Red Sox have lost 3 in a row and 4th in line for 2 WCs.   They had a chance to be a buyer or seller and chose neither, so now everybody is pissed off including me.   Doing nothing was an option but not a good one when you are fighting for WC...lot's of pitchers traded teams in the last week.  If Dombrowski is throwing in the towel then just say it and let someone else be a professional and do your job for you.
