Frown A sad day indeed

Just last night on CMT I watched the 20 top Southern Rock Songs countdown. A must see with old concert footage of all songs and comments from their peers. Skynyrd had 3 songs in the top 14 and as Hank Williams Jr said when they took the stage they looked bigger than life.

1 Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Sweet Home Alabama"

2 The Allman Brothers Band
"Ramblin' Man"

3 Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Free Bird"

4 The Marshall Tucker Band
"Can't You See"

5 The Charlie Daniels Band
"The Devil Went Down to Georgia"

6 The Allman Brothers Band
"Midnight Rider"

7 Hank Williams, Jr.
"All My Rowdy Friends Are Comin' Over Tonight"

8 Little Feat
"Dixie Chicken"

9 .38 Special
"Hold On Loosely"

10 Elvin Bishop
"Fooled Around and Fell in Love"

11 Wet Willie
"Keep On Smilin'"

12 Molly Hatchet
"Flirtin' With Disaster"

13 The Georgia Satellites
"Keep Your Hands to Yourself"

14 Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Gimme Three Steps"

15 The Ozark Mountain Daredevils
"If You Wanna Get to Heaven"

16 Blackfoot
"Train, Train"

17 The Marshall Tucker Band
"Heard It in a Love Song"

18 The Outlaws
"Green Grass & High Tides"

19 The Charlie Daniels Band
"The South's Gonna Do It Again"

20 Gregg Allman
"I'm No Angel"
When was young,my uncle was a city councilman in a small(at that time)community near Atlanta. He recieved 3 tickets for all three nights when they recorded "One more from the road" at the Fox theater.I was the lucky nephew that got the tickets. By far the best concert(s) I ever saw.I also got to see the Rossington Collins band in the Fox theater after the tragedy and they did Free Bird with no vocals except "Play it pretty for Atlanta" Not a dry eye in the house. Rest in Peace Billy and say hello to the boys for us all.

lodi, I saw the RCB on their first tour, too, in Gainesville, Georgia. Stage went black, then after the crowd was in a frenzy (knowing what was coming as the encore), a single spotlight hit a mic at center stage - where Ronnie would have been standing - and then the music started.......wow. I will never forget that moment......
