I was at the USA site trying to find out if my sons friends made the 14U team when I pulled up the 16U roster. http://web.usabaseball.com/events/events.jsp?ymd=200806...4249&vkey=event_usab

For teams they have their travel affiliation, not the HS team.

Is that normal?

I don't know. It just doesn't feel right if you are representing your country. IMO they should put the kids hometown HS or just his hometown.

Just seems a little strange to me after watching the Olympics. The people were from a town/city/state/country. Not some sports club.

Edit.

The 14U team is now listed and they have them by their home state. It looks much better and the universe seems balanced again.

Their home towns are listed - all in the good ol' USA.

I'm proud to have that team on 2B's baseball resume. IMO they're not representing their HS or home town any more than the "club." They're being selected to represent their country. The summer team gives them the platform show their stuff. The team's coaches are the ones that put their best team together, those teammates are the ones that stepped up to the very intense competition, supported each other, and made everyone proud.

Besides, the HS wouldn't mean anything for some of us who were there. We recognize the team names, and they bring back good memories. That was probably the best tournament experience we've ever had. Can't wait to go back next summer!
