wednesday @ 5:00 p.m. the 19th ranked university of virginia cavaliers will play @ old dominion university. virginia's fantastic early success this year has been led by some recent southhampton roads grads. mark reynolds (first colonial), ryan zimmerman (kellam), and mike mitchell (great bridge). also on uva's roster are pitchers mike ballard (red-shirting w/arm injury this season) and alex smith from cape henry. old dominion will send their ace justin verlander to the mound against a cavalier line-up that is batting .330+/- as a team ! this could turn out to be one of the best games to see @ old dominion this year. hopefully it will be met with a good crowd.

I certainly am proud of all the home grown talent on the Cavs. But there is another part of the State that is without sand and salt water it has beautiful mountains, fresh water, and some pretty darn good UVA ball players too.

Two of em were honored this week as ACC outstanding player(Joe Koshansky) and outstanding pitcher (Casey Lambert)of the week.

Casey Lambert - Harrisonburg (STAB)
Kyle Werman - James Madison HS
Matt Street - Loudoun Valley HS
Joe Koshansky - Chantilly HS

UVA/ODU pre-game

Good luck to the Cavs !

An article in the Va Pilot this morning talks about low attendance at ODU games and talks about the weather this time of year keeps people away. With the likes of Sexton, Rahl, Mitchell, Sizemore, and other locals they could pack the stands. Locals do not have a reason to go to the games. You can say what you want but tony blew it with missing all of the local talent in last years class. Yes, he got two pitchers from the beach (one could not qualify) and a beach infielder. No southeastern district kids, and they killed the beach in the regionals at his field.
aaugrad,

If you have a problem with Guzz, contact him. Otherwise, get over it. How long has it been any way? You really shouldn't go through life carrying a grudge like this.

IMO, the only other locals who would show up at the games would be the parents of the kids you mentioned, maybe 20-50 more people. That isn't exactly a sell out. Winning in a fun atmosphere is the way to put butts in the seats.

For the record, ODU won 5-4.
aaugrad,
guzzo is one of the most respected college coaches on the east coast if not the country. if he has had one fault it is that he hasn't been involved enough in the recruiting process. any parent would have to look hard and far to find a better person to leave there son with

as far as the southeastern district being better than the beach district. from top to bottom it isn't even close. the southeastern has great bridge, western branch and hichory
other than those three the rest might have a competitive team every four or five years. the beach has eight teams that are competitive every year. there are not many easy games at the beach you better have three above average pitchers and at least two decent pitchers to get through the season. top to bottom it's the beach all the way.
vadad,
I ment at the beach to be one of the top 2 or 3 teams because most games are tough games. to be one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the southeastern district you can get by with a lot less pitching.

what i'm saying is simple there are at most 2 teams at the beach each year that are a lot weaker than the other 9. in the southeastern district most of the teams other than the three i mentioned are much weaker than 4-9 at the beach
