Veteran's Stadium and Olympic Stadium in Montreal have to be -- by far -- the two worst ball parks ever to have existed. Thank God one of them is gone.
I, for one, have some fond memories of The Vet. Saw my one and only All-Star game there in 1976, and got to see some other games there in the late 70's. For a kid in love with the game, it was great to see--and some of the best ballpark hot dogs I've had (Dodger Dogs, included).
Physically probably one of the worst ball parks, not to mention the turf....but you can't put a price on the memories it brings to my mind and the feelings it invokes. It was the stadium I grew up with and where I sat on the third base line watching Mike Schmidt while the "Hot Pants Girls" served you your concessions. When I saw the stadium collapsing, I admit it made me sad. I'll miss the old Vet. Heard they are imprinting an outline of the infield along with the homeplate and bases in the parking lot. Looking forward to seeing games in the new stadium now.
luvbb jt I guess I will miss it too. I grew up going to Connie Mack but my kids only know the Vet. and alot of great memories there. The thing I want the kids to see most is real grass lit up at night. And of course we will be much closer to the field.
The worst luxury box seats right under he stadium lights, about 300 feet above the ground.
Was able to dribble baseballs on the Astro turf. Can't believe they played football on that surface. Did see the Phillies beat the Mets along with 51,000 other fans, likley because the July 4 firework show
My son played in three Carpenter Cup Tournaments at Vets Stadium. So, it holds personal memories for me. My son did mention that it was fun throwing baseballs at the rats in the bullpen tho!
Phils v reds. Tie game . Bottom of the 9th. Man on 3rd.One out.
Ball hit to shallow right. O'neil cahrges , gets his glove n the ball, fumbles it a couple times, drops it.Thinking he blew the game, angrily kicks the ball. Only it's a perfect drop kick to the cut man in the infieled. Runner on third ,thinking it was gonna be cught, goe back to the bag. doesn't score!
Ditto the three Carpenter Cups for my son, luvbb. Even though Delaware North never got very far, and despite the feeling of being entombed in concrete, what a thrill seeing him play in those surroundings.
