For those considering reclassifying, I'll share that I asked VHSL to advise whether it would allow players a 5th year of eligibility, to make up for losing nearly all of the 2020 season and also some of the 2021 season.

While I appreciate that VHSL gave a swift response, I regret to report that the answer was a definitive "no."

So anyone thinking of repeating a grade in order to get that lost season back, needs to be thinking of spending at least their senior year, if not more, in private school.  Public school/VHSL will not permit the fifth year, not even under the current circumstances.

This is probably wise.  There are already a decent number of kids held back for any number of reasons.  So somebody born in July 2001 that was held back once would be nearly 20 years old next June when a baseball season normally ends.

You could end up with a 20 year old young man who should be College soph. playing against 14 year old HS freshmen.  Doesn't feel right.
