Sandman and other video experts:

I do not understand how to put clips together "side by side". I have software that will bring them up side by side for my own analysis. However, how does one go about posting them for others to see? When I see side by side on the internet are they actual two (or more) GIF files that are synchronized? If so, what program do you use to create the GIF files and how do you synchronize them? What is advantage of GIF vs MPEG or AVI? Any help would be appreciated.

NickKio,

When I do side-by-side animated GIFs, it's usually the brute force way. I export the video to frames (JPGs), then cut/paste each frame of the 2 players into a single frame, using my photo editor, then save a separate JPG. Then I just crank 'em thru Animation Shop.

Sometimes tho, I'll just use the split screen mode of V1 Home Ed. and take screen shots of the 2 players at once. This saves the step of pasting the 2 players together.

I haven't created split screen videos yet (MPG, MOV, etc.). However, I just read an article about how to do Picture-in-Picture (pIP) in Pinnacle. So I'll be trying this soon too. Smile

I plan to answer tom.guerry's latest request on batspeed to compare Doug's son vs. Bonds from the catcher's perspective. Which brings me to another question... do you still have the clips of Brett (I don't see them on your page anymore)? Thanks.
One more thing...

Nick, one of the big advantages to GIF files is size. Although you can create some pretty compacted video files when creating MPEG's. With animated GIF's you can still open them in Quicktime to view frame by frame.

How do you synchronize? My guess would be to find the release point on each image. That would be your starting point. From there you'd add back in the frames preceding that release point. At least that's how I do it with my software. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. Animation Shop may make this easier. I haven't worked with it before though so I can't answer that.

I'll play around with it a little tonight and hopefully be able to give you a more detailed explanation.

You wouldn't happen to have the link to that article would you? I have Pinnacle and would love to be able to do side-by-side video. I too do it the "brute force way" when creating animated gif's.
