I thought I would post the following in hopes that the info might help should, God forbid, any of our kids ever be in harms way on their college campus.
This morning Penn State's president is urging all of the students to sign up for a text messaging service offered thru the university, to help notify students if there is an emergency on campus. Given the sheer numbers of students (45,000) and immense physical size of a school like Penn State.....and there are so many others (Virginia Tech included) of large size...it is so very difficult to reach such masses in the time needed when an emergency dictates quick communication. At Penn State, this service has ALWAYS been there.....but few use it or even know of it apparently...until TODAY and unfortunately due to what happened at VT.
I urge each of you to research your child's school to see it they offer a similar text messaging service for their students. If your kids are anything like mine...their cell phone is a permanent appendage on their body..and probably the quickest and most efficient way to reach them quickly in an emergency.
