LOS ANGELES - Junior infielder Kevin Swick was recently named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 8 Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Swick (La Canada, Calif./Loyola HS) holds a 3.77 cumulative GPA as a business administration major at USC. He was one of four infielders selected to the first team of 10 student-athletes from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada. Swick was just one of five Pac-12 student-athletes to make the team and one of five juniors. This is his second-straight selection, as he earned first team honors last season as well.
Swick maintains his 3.77 GPA while being a main contributor to the Trojan baseball squad and holding presidency in USC's Value Investing Club. Last summer while playing baseball for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the prestigious Alaska Baseball Summer League, Swick interned for Permanent Capital Management, an investment firm in Alaska. He recently was named the 2013 Male Trojan of the Year at USC's Tommy Awards, which is an awards program for USC's student athletes. The award recognizes student-athletes that best exemplify the qualities of a Trojan - Faithful, Scholarly, Skillful, Courageous and Ambitious.
On the diamond, Swick has started 37-of-44 games to date for the Trojans. He is batting .291 on the year and is second on the team with 10 doubles. He has also driven in 10 runs and scored 18 runs for the Trojans. In the past week, Swick has tallied two home runs.
As a first-team Academic All-District honoree, Swick will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
