I know two guys who claim to have been drafted at some point - one in the early 80s and the other in the mid 90s. NEITHER ONE shows up anywhere at all when I do a Draft Search at The Baseball Cube. That search engine claims to have every player drafted in every round all the way back to, I think, 1961. So what's the deal? Do teams pick up guys (like a 'meat squad') some other way? Does the baseball cube draft search tool have everyone you know was drafted? Or are these guys just liars?

Krakatoa,

BH15 hit the nail on the head. Baseball Cube as far as I know has always been right on, at least for the guys I have checked on.

There is an old saying...."The older I get the better I was"

I think sometimes instructors that do not have a background create one instead of going on what they have accomplished or the results they are achieving.

The web has been unkind to liars.

I saw a report than half the people who claim to have Medals of Honor are liars. There is a site that lists all recipients going back to the Civil War.

A dealer who sells used Super Bowl rings and the like told the Wall Street Journal that half his customers are memorabilia collectors. The other half are wearing the stuff to impress people.

My research indicates that at least half the posters here who claim to actually have posted have done so. Other posters who have not posted here sometimes claim they do; however, there is no post to verify if this is true. It leads me to believe they are only in it for the glory. The other half are liars and actually turned down minor league contracts in order to continue not posting.

what players lying about being drafted, I am shocked biglaugh

What is next guys lying to girls about how good they are

Good story, a player called me up claimed he been drafted by 3 teams and had Lee Steinberg as his agent. They based Jerry Mc Guire on Steinberg, big time football and baseball agent.

Anyways after checking and informing him about nothing he told me was true, he suddenly had a call on the other line and had to go.

A little footnote, another player called me 2 days later also claiming he was drafted 3 times. This guy was true.

WAAAY off topic (I HOPE so)
-----------------------------
On December 1, 1969, the United States began a new method* of drafting young men to fight the war in Vietnam: It held a lottery.

It worked like this: Each day of the year was printed on a piece of paper. These pieces of paper, representing each potential draftee's birthday, were placed in blue plastic capsules. Then all 366 capsules (one for each day of the year, including leap years) were placed in a large glass jar.

As millions watched on TV or listened on radio, the capsules were drawn from the jar, one by one. The first date drawn was assigned a draft number of "one"; the next date drawn received draft number "two"; and so on, until each day of the year -- each potential birthday -- had been drawn from the jar and assigned a draft number.
I searched for CADad on the baseball cube and couldn't find it for some reason. Smile

As for the draft, I was just young enough to miss it but ended up enlisting in time to be classified as a Vietnam Era veteran without the possibility of ever being sent there.

BTW, thanks to all of those who did serve in Vietnam.
