I was looking for a kid who was said to be throwing 97mph but is failing every class so he's not on anyone's radar, but ran into this kid from the same area instead:

Jordan Prendiz

http://www.perfectgame.org/Pla...ofile.aspx?ID=381744

LH OF committed to UCLA, USA 18u invite (didn't make 1st cuts), 87mph OF, 82mph mound, 6.63 60y, 94.5mph bat.

He's not athletic.  In fact he looks a little awkward (a lot of LL-style mechanics) but I see a ton of room for improvement.  For example I've never seen a guy run 6.63 while looking so slow.  He can get to 6.4 with minor adjustments.  His bat speed is tremendous for a non power hitter (but why isn't he hitting HRs?).

Anyway I hope to see him find success in this game.

He is a very good player.  Why do you say he isn't athletic? UCLA doesn't usually recruit non athletic outfielders.

Also, how does a HS kid throwing 97 in California be off everyone's radar?  I would think he'd be on every pro scouts radar that has that territory.

Yeah, I'm thinking someone exaggerated.  I've seen THAT kid hit and he's very talented, but did not see him throw.

I actually didn't see anything negative in the OP. He may be wrong about the assessment, but I think his point was that he sees a kid with eye popping numbers that doesn't appear all that athletic and marvels at how high this kid's ceiling could be.

We've got that kind of kid here in Colorado. He's clearly the #1 2018 recruit in the state. PG has him 5th, but hasn't seen him much. Given that he's ranked by PG behind my own son, I'm not going to make the argument that they should move him up.

Just looking at the kid, though, you'd never think he was an athletic baseball player. Listed at 5' 11" - but probably not - and looks a little chunky. Then he steps up to the line and runs a 6.67 60. He flat out owns centerfield and hits 98mph off the tee last summer. He plays for what is arguably the top HS program in the state. He started as a freshman last year (the first freshman starter at that school since 1976), batted cleanup and led the team in home runs and rbi. Even though he isn't really touted as a pitcher, they threw him on the mound and he topped 88 as a freshman. The kid also carries like a 4.6 gpa and is honestly one of the best all around guys you could meet. First looks can be deceiving.

Exactly, I like these diamonds in the rough...

Says he ran a 6.87 vs 6.67 (assumed typo, but big difference).  Big hitter, solid speed, video from recent PBR showcase didn't do him justice with his fielding.  Awkwardly tight space to judge kids for fielding.  Noticed he was the only Freshman at the Colorado Futures Games. Hopefully his corner outfielding skills are better than Schwarber's.  Lots of upside..

Figured you were talking about Cherry Creek...been a power house in multiple sports for a long time.  (They were when I attended)

Yeah. Cherry Creek. As to the 60 time, word was he bettered his PBR time by a full .2 at a Texas Camp in January (however, I imagine it was hand-timed as well - be interesting to see what PG gets him at with electronic timing). My kid runs a galloping 8.10. We've been playing him since he was an 8u. He used to be one of those early bloomers. Others caught and past him in size, but his skillset kept improving.
