Good Evening Baseball fans,
Does anyone have a clue what happens if a PG showcase is expecting a high chance of rain. What happens if it does rain? Looking for past experience or anyone informed on protocol.
Thanks,

Curious if you are asking due to the rains in Florida this week and the showcase scheduled for Fort Myers. My son is registered for that one and coming from out of state. On Friday, someone from PG assured me there is a great grounds crew in Fort Myers and the fields there drain very well. Still, I am concerned as thunderstorms are predicted all week with the potential tropical development in the Gulf.
You're gonna get wet.
I “think” that you would get a credit towards another showcase.
Same concerns from all of the collegiate teams who are playing their last home series.
We have had such an awesome spring.

If it rains the showcase will be conducted in the rain. PG showcases don't get "rained out."
Concerned for pitchers at these rainy showcases seeking their best velos... wet baseballs will not radar as well as dry ones, grips will be an issue, etc. There will not be any asterisks on their PG profiles.
The irony for my son is he specifically wanted to go to Fort Myers because it does not appear they use turf fields, and more specifically, turf mounds. Not to derail this thread into a discussion about turf mounds, but my son threw at a showcase off a turf mound at Lakepoint at 8am covered in dew and felt like he was slipping. So, a bummer that he might be trading dew for mud this time.
It rained a few years ago at a PG event I was in. We just moved indoors to the local Dbat facility
Its not good and its not just in Florida. Supposed to be bad in GA for the weekend.
Today its been rain, sunshine, rain, thunder, lightening mow raining again. I have gotten 4 severe weather alerts today. Yesterday in WPB there was a tornado. Now bad weather in DC and Texas , ground stops at airport.
Thought I'd update this following the rainy event in Fort Myers last weekend.
PG made every attempt to complete this showcase, I'm sure to avoid the rescheduling, refunds/credits, and other admin pains that would have affected the players, families and staff.
Saturday weather held out most of the day, but a lightning delay occurred just as the second round of games were beginning around 2:30pm. Then thunderstorms rolled in during the delay, and PG provided frequent updates on the event website of the delays, asking players to refresh every hour or so. Unfortunately, rains did not let up, and the 5-Plex fields (which are not turf) do not have lights. Attempts were made to move to another field, but around 7:30pm, the decision was announced that Saturday would be cancelled and rescheduled for Sunday.
Sunday began as rescheduled, though while fields were prepped and in mostly good condition considering the rainfall, most bullpens were not, affecting warmups for the starting pitchers. Rain and lightning affected the afternoon schedule, and the remainder of the event was held to completion as a simulation at the indoor facility.
Obviously, PG cannot control the weather, and they deserve credit for making the best of the situation. The conditions were less than ideal where my pitcher son is concerned as he felt that the soft mound and heavier, wet balls negatively affected his velo and command... neither of which I am sure will be noted in his report or rating. While this may sound insignificant, I am estimating the top velo was down at least 2 mph. Had this been a tournament, I would have been thrilled to play at all. But as an expensive showcase, this was not going to give my son his best opportunity to perform at his top potential.
I am on the east coast and our last game of a conference series got rained out, as did many college games here in Fl. Now the system has moved north, the Sunshine State Conference has been on hold since last week trying to get games in to head to D2 CWS in Cary.
Not looking too good this week for the CUSA championship in MS.
Been in Fl for 42 years and have never ever seen anything like this.

Teams with turf mounds have an advantage. Opposing pitchers fear they are going to slip. So at the least they believe they’re slipping. It gets in their head and affects their focus and performance. If a pitcher is on a turf mound don’t think about it. Chances are they will encounter them in college.

Also, all turf mounds are not created equal. Every HS and college pitcher should have 2 or 3 pair of shoes designed for play on turf - and part of pregame is determining what is appropriate footwear
