my question is what makes a freshman able to step up to a big time D1 program and get significant playing time and have success? It doesn't nessesarily have to do with how high he went in the draft, his high school batting average, whether he played american legion or Team USA, or how high Baseball America rated them in their state (or at least this is my general observation, i could be dead wrong

what got me to thinking about this were the freshman studs down at Clemson in CF, 2B, and SS and Drew Stubbs incredible freshman year at Texas, and i know there are many more, but what makes them able to step up like that?

i am mainly talking about position players.
