Zack, welcome to the High School Baseball Web!

You asked, "...what do scouts look for exactly?"

They look for something like this:
A 6'4" 190 lb high school junior with a mid to high 80's fastball with a change and curve...

Being a little humorous in my response, but my point is, your W-L record in HS is not going to keep you from being scouted and recruited. It sounds like you have the size and skill to interest a scout or college coach. If you have not been to any showcases or high-profile tourneys yet, you should get busy and make plans to do so this summer, ASAP. Scouts and recruiters are more interested in seeing you pitch than in your W-L record.

Good luck, and keep us updated!
good
Zack,

You sound like a very interesting prospect. You’re young so it’s understandable, please take the following as an attempt to help rather than it being critical.

You asked about blowing your chance and mentioned a few things that will ring the bell, set off the sirens and wave the red flag to college coaches and scouts. It’s the things I’ve put in bold that could cause some concern with college coaches and scouts.

quote:
I have a 1.96 ERA but im 0-5 due to lack of run support or because of errors comitted. My games have been games like 0-1, 1-2 with 1 earned run.. ETC. Because my team can't seem to pull me together a win does this blow my chances?

College coaches and scouts don't care about your record, but not many will want to hear the words in bold. You might want to at least think about it. Really only trying to help you.

Best of luck
Zach

Your job on the mound is to give your team a chance to win. You do that. It's a team game though. Take PG Staffs advice. Lose the I, me, my stuff and pick your boys up.

Work quick to keep your guys in the game and get a K after an E to take some pressure off them. nervous

You are the man so show them why.

Good luck
sorry i must have been misunderstood, this forum wasnt supposed to promote me i was just wondering if these certain aspects would throw anything off for scouts. I love my team and i know they try as hard as possible and we're just getting bad breaks. all i was asking is if W-L ratios in high school meant anything and apparently not. I will be invloved in showcases this summer, i'll be playing on the Region team (Empire States) and i play for a legion team in the summer. Thanks for the replies. Smile
I wasn't inferring that you were promoting yourself here. I was just saying that you should probably leave your team's shortcomings out of the conversation when "selling" yourself to anyone. Trust me, I don't think scouts or recruiters are going to look at your W-L record and say "This kid is awful" when you sport the size and pitches you do. If anyone should comment about your lack of run support it would probably be your coach if he's contacted. Maybe others disagree? Your high 80's FB and command of three other pitches will be very attractive.
